Roof rack for skis/bike on an LS400? Is it possible?
I can't seem to find anyone (Thule, Yakima) who makes a roof rack that fits an LS400, and as far as I know, it doesn't have a pass-thru from the trunk. How are you supposed take your LS on a ski trip? I've seen the trailer hitch contraptions, but I don't think they'd be good for long trips. Anyone out there have experience?
I am 95% sold on getting a '98 LS, but this is one of the only major drawbacks I can find.
Thanks

Here is one thread about racks for the LS: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...highlight=rack
Try doing a search - this has been discussed several other times.
There are magnetic racks available too. here is one: http://www.rackattack.com/product-pa...rd-carrier.asp

I'd start by seeing if a roof rack that works on a late 90s Camry or Avalon would fit your Lexus. Roof rack pillar clips are usually not made for a particular model car but for a type of roof structure. One particular pillar/clip assembly might fit many different cars. For example, look at the Thule "400xt Aero Foot | LB50 Load Bars | 2070 Fit Kit" which fits a 98 Avalon.
A Lexus LS will require some fairly long cross bars. Neither the Prealpina ski/bike rack I used on my Mercedes 240 nor the Yakima ski rack I used on our Hondas had cross bars wide enough to use on either my 90 or 00 LS.
Be aware that roof rack clips can compress and damage the rubber door seals. If you are only going to carry skis or snowboards, I would highly recommend a magnetic rack.
