Default Last chance before I give up....

Well my fellow ls400 brothers. I did the unthinkable. I repainted the car a pearl grey with a ls460 metallic paint, threw some new 20 inch neeper throwbacks on her and then the radiator explodes in mid highway trip. To no avail I bought another for only 175 bucks. Had my mechanic install it and then an hour after picking it up. It over heats again and the oil light comes on. Oil was in it but mechanic said the head gasket was cracking. Ok. So he took it back to his shop and got it ready to sell. He said it would run fine and wouldn't overheat anymore so I thought about keeping it. But once again, the worst occurs. I crunk up the car and its runs horribly. Like its running on four cylinders and its sounds terrible. So I drove it home. Tried hitting the gas to the floor only to see that it was not punching out like it should. What is going on here guys. Whats wrong with my engine. Its a 91 ls 400 with 275k on it and up until this last repair it ran fine. Why is it running like a sentra and not a lexus.

One of our LS400 (91) had a coil go dead. The car was indeed running on 4 cylinders, but was able to limp home. Put a timing light on the coil wires one at a time with the engine running, and see if the light (coil) is dead. For the passenger side coil, you will have to remove some of the plastic cover pieces to get to that coil wire.

i dont think a ignition coil would cause the crap to run crappy. call up a dealer or contact one here.

99% its the coil, usually its the drivers side coil that fails, its kind of pain in the *** to remove, but not too bad... I managed to replace mine in about 30 minutes, I had to remove the battery and the battery tray.

Yes, a dead coil makes the engine run like crap, but it will run, and you can limp it home.
