Default Looking to get an LS, am I paying too much?

Hey guys, I havent been on the forum in awhile... I had a 98 GS400 two years back (you can see pics in the gallery), and since then I have had a Vette, 300zx TT, F150, and a 5.0 foxbody Mustang.... but I have finally returned to my true home, a Lexus.

I am looking at a 1992 LS400, 109k miles, full serivice (timing, belts, hoses) done at 65k miles, and the dash light problem was fixed at Lexus a year ago. Body is in good shape, minor scrathes from everyday driving. The front seats are pretty torn up though, as you can see in the pictures. Has Alpine CD/MP3 player, and Boston Acoustik speakers throughout. Spotless CarFax. They are throwing in some 19" rims with bald tires as well.

What is a good price for me to pay for this car?

Thanks!
--Ian

$3000 max considering the leather on seats and steering wheel. you'll need another 800+ to replace that. Otherwise, looks good. I love that color. 109k is very little mileage. hows it run?

It runs very very good...

I figured it would be 4500 because of the mileage, but maybe I am way off. I can get the seats fixed by a buddy for about 200 a piece and the steering wheel for about 100.

oops i guess i was lowballin. Edmunds TMV says its worth about 4k. so i guess $3500 is a fair price. since it'll cost you 500 to get the leather right. Since its old though i would try to get it for 3k. Wouldn't hurt.

Actually, I think you were closer the first time. Edmonds list that 92 at about $4300 retail and private party about $3000. With the condition of the leather, cluster, steering wheel and other parts I'd say I'd put it under $3000 private party. kbb.com list a car like this private party in fair condition for $6K which is way too high as I've seen much better 95-96 cars with that mileage going for the same price. The conditionof this car would be unrated on kbb.com anyway. I personally wouldn't even buy it, but if I did I wouldn't pay anything higher than $2,500.

Don't mind them, pito

They're all LEXUS guys.

You could sell your's to some know-nothing wanna be "baller" for 7-8, easy.

Someone offered me 12 for mine, and it's a 93 with almost 200k on it.

It's all in how you talk, especially locally.

$2,000 to $2200 is what I'd pay.

I guess it just depends on where you live. If you have a lot of choices in your area than better deals will be found. If you don't have much Lexus cars in your area than the seller has the advantage.

The other thing to realize is because we are all familiar with the car, we know that they last a long time, but we also know what wear and tear items need addressing at 100K+ miles. All the little things can nickel and dime you unless the seller has already taken care of it.

This is true. There are a lot of gotta have it suckers out there. We are trying to help a fellow member buy the car though. We don't want him to over pay for it. If he were selling it maybe we might help him get the best price

PS. I would have sold your car in a heartbeat. Local used car dealer is selling a really clean white/tan 97 LS with 69K miles for an advertised price of $12,999. Could have gotten this for about $12K out the door. This is the car I was looking at before I found my 99 with 47K miles at the time.
