Default a 98 LS400

I am in the market to buy an LS4.

I am looking at this 98 LS400 with 130K miles. The car is in good condition. 2nd owner. The seller asked for $11K.

The seller said that the timing belt and water pump were replaced at 90K miles. He showed me the memo but not receipt. The cost was $850 for the replacement at an independent shop.

Is it even possible to replace the tb and wp at a cost of $850?

What do you think a reasonable price would be for this car?

Thanks

I don't know prices in KY but I think it is too much to pay over $10K for a car with 130k miles. I have seen LS400's 98-00 with 60-90k miles for around $12k to $15k in Chicago.

if u come with a claim like that u best have some backing, ie- current ads...

ask for a reciept then have an independant take the timing cover off (or diy if ur mentally competent enough to hold a rachet) and see the date on the tb.

11k for 130k is SLIGHTLY high, id go for 10500 if i was you but id only touch the car if its had the maint. done, if not, instantly drop the price an extra 750-1000.

These are only few that have around 60K and asking price of $14k which is negotiable. If I was looking at the one with 90K mileage those are around 10-11k dollars and the car he is looking at is worth the most $8000 dollars if. Buddy keep looking there are better deales on 10 year old cars out there.

That's too much money. Tell him to be reasonable - It's 10 years old and is at a mileage where a lot of cars get sent to the scrap heap.
