Default Oil Pan Leak, Need Assistance.

95 LS 174,000

My mechanic will be dropping the OIL PAN this morning due to a nonstop leak. As most of you know Toyota, Lexus Vehicles do not have gaskets for transmission or oil pan, even though at the auto part store thet will sell you a gasket. I bought a black sealant from toyota part # 00295-00103 expecifically for the oil pan, could also be used for Transmission pan, COST $15.00. I decided to take no changes. While the Mechanic is down there, is there anything else he should inspect before completing the job. Is dropping the oil pan as easy as 1-2-3 as it sounds, drain oil, remove pan, seal pan, top off with oil. Please, any advise will be greatly appreaciated. My mechanic is very good, but has limited knowledge about these cars. We are both learning about this car as we tackle different things.

I will also be using the "New" Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic high mileage 10W-40. I bought it at Walmart 5 gallon $23.00. The mechanic said it had been out for a couple of months. I dont know what type of oil the previous owner used, but I'll me making the change to synthetic like many of you have. The mechanic suggested the 10W-40 because of the V8 Engine. I'll be using a Bosch oil filter.
Thanks in advance

It really is as simple as dropping the pan. This is a tutorial for the 1st gen,but I'm sure its pretty similar to the 2nd gen:

I am not so concerned about changing the oil, I am more concerned about removing the pan and resealing it. To change the oil the pan would not have to be removed, simply drain the oil and top off. My questions relates more to romoving the pan. After the pan is removed, its there anything else to check for. Also any suggestions on hte type of oil that I will be using. Thanks

I think with the stated mileage, if I were going in that far I would replace the oil pump while there. Just my opinion.

After the pan is off, just make sure your mechanic does a thorough job of scraping off all of the old sealant/residue off the pan (and the area where the pan was held in place) before applying the new sealant.

Thanks for your advice exe.ucf10. The mechanic did as you suggested. He scraped everything off the pan before putting it back. The leak stopped. Now, there is PS Pump leak that I have to tackle. I have read so many threads on this that I really do not know where to start from. I'll probably go the easy route and get a rebuild pump from AutoZone, $160.00. Thanks again.
