Default 18x7.5 +35 ok for 1990 LS

Hey guys,

I have been doing a ton of research and as usual have over analyzed this and now am not sure what to do. I could really use some assistance.

I currently have some 18x7.5 +45 wheels with 225x40s on all four corners. The wheels have defects in them and the shop is going to warranty them out for me. I am wanting to get wheels that are more even with the fender. The current wheels sit in roughly an inch from the edge of the fender. I would like to be able to use my tires as they are not that old. What wheel size and offset would accomplish this?

I have been looking at a set of 18x7.5 +35s but have read that +35 is not good on a LS. It would cause too much bump steer/kickback and directional stability would be reduced. So now I am not sure what would be best.

How wide can I go and keep my 225x40s? Maybe go with 18x8 in the front and use current tires and maybe go with 18x9 in the rear and get new tires for the rear? If I were to do something like that what size and offset would be best?

Thanks

225/40 is the wrong tire for the car, the tire itself will not be the same diameter as stock. for the 1LS u need (for an 18x8 wheel, or anything not as wide) a MINIMUM of a 245/40.

a set of 18x8 all around of even a staggered 18x8/18x9or10 with 245/40 and say 265/35 would be perfect.

245/40/18 tires are pretty cheap too.

If I were to go with 18x8 all around, what offset would I need to bring the wheels even with the fenders? If I went with a 18x9 in the rear, what offset?

Your not going to be happy with a 7.5 wheel, trust me get at least an 8 or 9, for flush (ish) offsets at stock ride height and no fender rolling I presume, your going to want something in the mid 30s.

They are bringing in a 18x8.5 +35 for me to look at. The bad part is that I will have to buy new tires if I go with them. Didn't want to spend that money right now though. Just bought new suspension and upper control arms. GRRRR. But I guess if I want to be happy with it then I should just do it.

I am not running stock suspension. I am taking out the Tanabes and putting in H&R tomorrow. Needed to bring it up a little in order to get a lower offset in there.

So will these wheels be close to flush with the fenders? I am probably going to put 245x40s on them (if there is room). I know these tires are slightly larger than the oem tire size but not sure I want to go with 35s.

Thanks for your help guys.

actually u got it wrong.

205/65R15 is what ur car came with standard, so a 245/40/18 is the PERFECT 18" tire size.

u dont need to raise the car up at all (itl actually sit higher itself thanks to the tires being the proper size)
and u dont need to roll ur fenders as long as ur offset isnt below 35.

enjoy.

I was going off of what the tire shop told me. They told me that the diameter of my stock tires is 25.49" and the 245/40/18 are 25.71". But they also said that the 225/40/18 is in the correct range. So who knows if they know what they are talking about. They are treating me good though. Can't complain. They are going to warranty my wheels even though I am over the 1 year mark. They no longer carry the wheel brand that I have so I get to choose something new

My car sits really low with these springs. The tires in the front are tucked in pretty good. If I put wheels with +35 offset on there I am pretty sure I will have some rubbing issues. Plus I have to replace the upper control arms anyway so it is the perfect timing. I want to be able to have a little travel.
