Unhappy Help! Engine trouble!!

Help!

I have a 1992 LS400, everything was going fine, all of a sudden the engine developed a stutter like it was missing occasionaly. after about five minutes the 'check engine' light and 'trac off'light came on. It still was driving but the stutter would come and go.

Is this just a bad tank of gas, or I read that the Power-steering pump could leak on to the alternator and wreck that. Could that be whats happening?

Any help or advice you could give this newbie (I've only had my LS400 for two weeks) would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds as if it is electrical. The VERY first thing to do is check for corrosion and tightness of your battery cables. Secondly check your battery. Thirdly check your alternator by measuring its output at the battery. The trac off light is probably coming on because there is not enough voltage to keep the solenoid engaged, hence giving the trac off light.

Default 92 LS

Trac will disable itself if almost anything goes wrong with the car.

Go buy the 92 shop manuals and follow the procedure for troubleshooting engine malfunctions.

When my left front oxygen sensor failed in my 92 LS the diagnostic code led me straight to it.
