Car won't start!!!

Last night i am cruising on the highway with friends, doing 65-70mph and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the RPM's dropped to zero, and i would step on the gas and RPM's will not move at all!! so i pull over on the shoulder, car will turn over fine but won't start. Now i am thinking Fuel pump went out, Anyone with any suggestions what might have happened?

try checking the code with an OBDII reader (assuming that its a 95+ LS)....

I dont know what it is but it sounds like what happend to me when my timing belt went out. It just died all the sudden and wouldnt start. But surely with 198000 miles you arent on the original TB...

sounds like the timing belt broke. have you ever changed it?

Salil022 Feb 26, 2007 01:38 PM

not sure if its the timing belt, but i got the car with more than 195k miles and not sure if its been changed. But is there a way to check if the fuel pump is bad?

turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump, i say it is the Tbelt also.

when you crank the car does it crank normally or does it seem to crank a bit faster and sound kind of higher pitched?
