Default alarm / starter problems

i just had the starter replaced in my 1990 ls 400. the engine turns over but does not start. the mechanic is trouble shooting the problem. the alarm has been giving us problems lately. when you go to unlock the door the alarm goes off but after twisting the key several it shuts off. could the alarm system be telling the computer not to start the car? is there a way around this? lexus dealer wants to run a diagnostic on it then trakc it down. i even used the master key (the one with the keyless button on it) to try and reset the alarm. did not work. any info would help. without a car.

Hmm, check your ignition cylinder. When you put the key in the cylinder, without turning it, if you open the drivers door, the car should beep. If its not beeping, the car probably isn't sensing the key inside the cylinder. Then you might have to replace it.

even if it doesn't sense the key, would you still be able to turn the key and the engine still turn over but not start?
