What year LS is best to get? selling my SC400

Selling my SC400 for a lS400
I have a 95 and I wanted to get a 98 LS400 I like the improvemnets made in 98. How will it handle, ride vs the SC400?

the 98s can be had for 10k with about 90-100k on them around here. Is this the going rate for 98 LS400s?

anotherLS 02-23-07 02:12 PM

going rate for the 98-00 are from 12-20K depending on mileage! but the 98-00 dont have very many problems with it...so its a good buy....if you want less problems then 2001-up are very good!

I had a 98 and a 99 LS. I like my 98 more, but not sure why. They seem to be the same. I guess it was a first car type of deal. I'd say get the 98-00 because it's quicker and there are MANY improvements on them. You can't do much performance-wise, but they seem to hold up longer than many of the older LS's. Those were the last 400's so they had alot of time to fix the bugs and perfect it.

def hit the ucf21 98-00 :)

I have a 95 and thought seriously about buying a 98-00 and swapping every part that would fit.....engine, interior, safety improvements are numerous.

Yours looks good - even though we'd lose some parts cuz they wouldn't fit it would still be worth it to get VVTi, side airbags, better seats, tranny, etc. Decisions decisions.

steve, the only things that wont fit are the clear markers and the tails ;)

Well, I have a 93SC4, and had a 98LS... and I must say, they are very different.

The LS is more of a plush ride, very comfortable, and noticeably faster then my 93. Also consumes less gas. Less problems then the SC... no vents cracking, no problematic ball joints, no engine, tranny mount issues, no speedo lighting issues, no AC lighting issues, or regulator... and the list grows. You can really tell that Lexus put all its effort into this car, and it was the best offering of Toyota.

Make sure you get a 99-00, if you cant, get a fully loaded 98 with HID's. Makes a huge difference.

I agree 100%. My 99 LS400 has 120K miles and drives like new... Of course its all up to date in maintainance and service records, so that may play a role as well.. But the biggest cost so far has been the 90K service, which nicked my pocket for like $1300, and it included replacement of the water pump, and the CV joints lube, and other stuff... No complaints on this car. Its served me for its 8+ years of ownership...

Looked at all gens of LS's, decided on a 98-00. Found a 99 w/ 117k miles for 11k$ (not bad). I love the car, can't say enough good things about it. Solid, fast, smooth ride, still has new car smell and looks. :)
