Default 90 LS loss of power

i have a 90 LS with 197xxx miles that i just purchased, when i first got it, it had a random missfiring so i figured it would need a tune up, so i changed spark plugs, wires, distributor and after that car ran good for 10 mins smooth as silk but then noticed, its revvin soo heavy seems like only 4 cylinders are firing up so cats got red hottt, so i went ahead and got new cats on and same problem now, now my mechanic tells me that it needs a new valve job and asking for $1200, does it make sense for me to get the valve job done or just buy a used motor? Any ideas or suggestions i would appreciate it

thanks

get a mechanic that ISNT trying to rape your wallet.

valve job doesnt effect perfomance enough.

Dude, your mechanic is plain out ripping you off. Your problem is a dead ignition coil, so four of your cylinders are not firing, and fuel is being dumped into exaust, and thus your cats are burning. Ignition coil is an $80 part.
