Default Access to license plate bulbs in 1gen LS400?

Has anyone replaced the license plate bulbs in their 1gen LS400? How do you go about doing so? I took off the carpet from the trunk and see the plugs going into the bulbs, but it's very difficult to handle them from there. Do I have to remove the taillight assembly? If not, do the bulb plugs twist off like all the brake lights or snap in?

the bulb plugs twist off once you have the trunk lid carpet removed. there's no need to remove the screws from the outside that hold the plastic lens in place.

yup, it should be pretty straight forward. Remove the carpet and twist to get the bulbs out. It may be initially a little hard to get them to turn, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Thanks for the help. I ended up removing the inside tail lights which made it so much easier. Kind of disappointing because after all that work I realized that the LEDs I got from eBay are so dim. I guess I'll have to go back to superlumination.com.
But at least now I know I don't have to remove the tail lights

If your talking about the rear license plate bulbs all you have to do is unscrew the four screws under the lights and then pull off the black piece and the bulbs should be hanging out already... Why take off any carpet or tail lights... ??? i took apart mines to try some bulbs and thats how i did it... i dont know if were talking about the same thing. License plate bulbs right? but no need for taking apart any carpet or tail lights...

The black piece was wedged in by both the inside tail lights, however I realized later it is pretty flexible so I will try that when my bright LEDs come in.

Anyone have any tips on popping off the domelight? Does the whole plastic piece come off including the switches or just the clear part?
