Default Cheap winter wheels to clear 97 brakes ;)

My dad owns a 1997 LS400.
He's older and not into tuning so buying summer rims and using the stock for winter is not an option for him.
In our area, winter tires are need. Instead of switching between summer and winter tires on th stock rims it's easier to have an extra set. But with the dual caliper brakes its not easy to buy just any 16" rim.
A good solution I found (because they are cheap, hell I"m sure ppl will give them away) was to use 1986.5-1990 Toyota supra rims. Their 16x8, look ugly as hell, but because of the old disc design it clears the brakes. Hope this might be helpful to someone...

I'll try to get some pics of them mounted. But for now this is how they look.

I actually found a set locally from the Mk3 supra (looks exactly like what you have, all black). Guy wants 100$. So you are sure they will fit?

On tire rack I can buy 215 or 225 sizes for snow tires. Given these rims, which ones do you recommend?

Thanks!

As long as they are they same wheel i have pictured they will fit. They are currently being used on my dad's 97 LS400 right now.

We are using the stock spec size tire for the 97 LS400. 225/60/16. As the supra rim is 16" as well.

On tire rack for the LS400 they let you pick 225/60 or 215/60. Given the Supra rim is wider than the LS400 stock rim, thus I was asking the tire size.

Thanks for the help

Attached is the pics for sale

With winter tires, the narrower the better. Look at it as ice skate vs skies, the narrower your tire is, the deeper it digs into the snow and provides for better control and traction.

If you pay $100 for those wheels, you are paying $100 too much. People literally give them away for free because they're so ugly.

If you find a free set, please let me know. I am in need of SOME wheels I can throw snow tires on, I don't care what kind.

Slim pickins in the midwest

Also with the POS big brake of the 2nd gen, nothing really fits.

Bought them for 30 bucks. They came with brand new Potenzas (which I will sell separately as I don't need them)

Now you guys can make fun of me for having ulgy 80s Black painted Supra wheels on my car.
