Red face Need help, do I buy the 97 LS or 99 GS?

There is a 97 LS400 with 113K, and a 99 GS300 with 104K, they are both the same price, $11,500. Now I am totally stuck. My car future was going to be LS, then lincoln LS, then GS. But now that they are the same price, I may as well skip the LS and get the GS right? But here is the thing, I have been doin research and the JD power reviews for the GS are worse than the LS. But the GS has higher resale value, and the GS has more standard features like traction and stability control. The LS has more interior leg and hip room, but the GS has more headroom and Im tall. I believe the GS is the V8 model, so they are both the same with that respect. Both cars would cost about the same insurance wise, so I am soooooo stuck. I am going to test-drive both of them today when I get off work. But I'm like wtf man, this is too hard to choose. I am sure the decision will get easier when I drive them both, but I literally had a dream about the cars last night. I am really tripping. What should I do?

Do you plan to mod the car? While the LS has some parts, the GS has soo much more available and the years you are talking have newer technology integrated. Just off hand, I'd say get the V-8 GS.

I don't believe I mill be much of a "moder." The only thing is that I am an LS enthusiast, and I HATE the new body style, so if I get this GS, by the time I am ready to get another car, the LS I want (1999 and older) may be SUPER old. Don't get me wrong, I know they last forever but still, it's almost 2007. I dont wanna miss out on the opportunity to have an LS even though I love the GS too.

I started out looking for a '98 GS3 and when the circumstances presented an LS, there wasn't a hesitation to getting it. I do like the LS430's...something about the lines on the second gen appeal more to me.

Contrary to what some say is an older persons car, there are plenty of them being driven by a younger crowd. In the Japanese rags, I'd say the appeal of the GS/Aristo and LS/Celsior are both popular cars for a wide range of drivers.

Drive them both and pick the one you like.

GS300 is a 6 cyl, the GS400 is the 8.

They are both nice cars, drive them both and figure out which one you like better.

yea i think i agree with puredrifter, b/c the LS is a 97 and not 98 for that reason I'd get the Gs unless you can find a 98+ LS. That is of course both the GS and LS your looking at are in equal condition. I personally think that the actual condition of the car is most important. So whatever is in best shape.

Don't forget that that most magazines (and people in general) classify the GS as a luxury car (same vehicle class as an E-Class Mercedes) while the LS is a prestige car (comparable to an S-Class Mercedes). Without question the LS is higher-end, you just have to decide how much you care. My vote is for the LS.

98-2000 LS otherwise settle on the GS.
