Default 1993 LS400 sound problem!

Hey, I recently bought my 93 lexus ls400 and i was wondering what is the problem with the cassette player.

When i put in a cassette, the tape plays but the sound is only comming from the right side speakers of the car. I tried adjusting the sound **** that moves the sound from the car left and right. When i turned the **** right, it had music, but when i turned the **** left, it was almost silent.

My cassette has another end that you can plug in to an ipod or a cd player, im only 17 and i dont have much money left for adding an ipod to the car. Thanks for the help in advance!

Thanks for the reply pure drifter! The radio and cd changer both don't have that unusual sound problem. Do you think the cassette reader is dusty or something?

most likley, worst case scenario ul just have to replace the HU. most likely ul get by either cleaning the tape heads (ask google) and/or trying a different tape.

I had the same problem with my HU. I ended up chucking it and going aftermarket, so I could get a line-in for my iPod, which was a great solution. the total cost wasn't that much. It was about $40 for the faceplate, $200 for the HU, and another $20 for the line in adapater.. And I think like $10 for the wiring harness which you can get from buy.com. (Those are fully loaded prices, e.g. including shipping and tax) I highly reccomend you go this route if you want clean sound from your iPod. These cassette adapters have a ridiculous amount of noise, and they just don't have the bandwidth to convey the full range of your music.

I hope the cleaning will work for you. I tried that, cleaning my cassette deck, but it didn't fix anything. I still had the problem of only hearing sound in one channel. If the heads are messed up you can't do much about it.
