Default Strange vibration, worse when throttle depressed

I've got a strange vibration that occurs between speeds of 45 through 65 miles an hour. It may be present at other speeds but in a much lesser form. The vibration is there when the car coasts, but becomes worse when the throttle is depressed, and the harder I press it, the worse it gets. It is not RPM dependent as it does not occur if the car is in 3rd gear or at lower speeds. I had the wheels balanced at Firestone in an attempt to solve the vibration but it had no effect. I intend to take the car back but I'd like to hear your thoughts on what it may be so I can point them in the right direction if needed.

I have also felt that vibration in my 92 but mine only occurs around 40 and does not get worse(only slight, not glass like smooth). I have always wondered about this as well. I had the car checked by several mechanics, including Lexus and nothing was found. Anyone with any ideas???

could it be the tranny mount? or have you singled that out as well? sounds more like the transmission mount.

I haven't looked at the mount yet. I guess that's one area to look at.

Scott, when you find the problem, please tell us how you corrected it. Thanks. ;-)

Well it's unlikely to be alignment or balance-related. I just went back there to have them double check both and they both were in-spec. I guess the next item to look at would be the transmission mount.

I would have the tranmission mount checked and also the drive shaft bushings. could be either of those.

My 95 does it mildly also - I will check the mount and driveshaft bushings - thanks for the great info.

Hey all, I had a 98 LS400 that vibrated at 80mph almost without exception and no one could figure it out. First I had broken engine mounts, "sure to fix it" they said. It didn't. Then they said it was the tires. Bought top of the line, V-rated tires, still didn't fix it. Then I was told it was the rotors... nope, also didn't do it. After all that, the vibration was considerably lessened but nonetheless remained. How freakin' annoying!

Anyway, I just changed to a GS430 and consequently was reading that forum when I came across this vibration issue. They've come across a solution - tighten the steering pretensor arm (I have no idea what that is or if I spelled pretensor correctly). However, it might be worth your while to check out that forum (GS - Second Generation) and see if their issues seem to ring true with yours. They sure did with me regarding my old LS400 (which, aside from the vibration, I loved)

Hey guys the "40 to 60 mph" vibration" issue has been exhuastively discusssed in this thread. It would be easier to search the thread then check your tranni mounts (by the way....your tranni mounts will be fine)
