Thumbs up 98-00 Starter Replacement w/pics.

As some may already know, I replaced the starter on my 98 a few days ago... project took some time, mainly to gather parts and all. Not to mention, this was all done in my garage with simple tools. Most of the time was spent waiting on parts in the mail, wish I had some help on gasket part numbers and what I needed before i started, but not much help can be found for second gens on the internet.

First I tried fixing the starter by changing the contacts, and the starter was yet to crank enough amps, so I bought a OEM DENSO reman. The car has been up and on its feet for a few days now without any problems.

I started a thread in the maintenance forum, and didnt get much info there, however, the main thread was started over at LOC with all the updates, pics, info, and part numbers to assist anyone attempting this long, and tough project.

Thread can be found here:

Thought it might be of some help to someone here, or for those who may need it in the future

damn Lexus basterds, right under the intake manifold. hmm those intake ports looked rusty, why didn't you polish them up a bit, a bit more flow = a bit more power?!?!?!?
btw, what's the sensor plugged into the block on the driver's side cylinder bank under the intake? knock sensor? in this pic, http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...e=post&id=5097
btw, is that your new red SC430?
Indeed, the starter location is not the best, replacement wise, i just hope theres a good reason engineering wise as to its location.

The ports were not rusty... do you mean just dirty? well, i cleaned up my intake manifold pretty well, and you have no idea what kind of stuff came out of there, however it was hard to clean the engine's intake openings because everything you clean will fall down to the valves.

As to the sensor, there are two, one on the driver, and passenger side, but you cant really see the other one in the pic. However, I looked them up, and forgot what they were.

And the SC430 isnt mine, just saw that one at Target, and thought it looked very nice. That new color looks very beautiful in person.

your welcome

Not yet...

This can be happening for a number of reasons, like weak battery, rusted terminals... etc.

However, my car was not starting PERIOD. I heard a SINGLE click when turning the key.
