Default Going to finally attempt a flush - Yes/No?

This questions has been frequently asked and I still did not get a definative answer. My 1992 LS has 200K miles

When I bought the car, the fluid was dark and it smelt like regular ATF (a no no because Type 4 does not smell like ATF, Dexron smells like ATF) and there was the shudder at 40mph when tranny unlocks from OD.

After my first Drain and Flush, the shudder went away but fluid was still dark. By now, I have done 3 D&F (all within 1K miles) but the fluid is at the most copper colored. Tranny shifts fine and so far I do not detect any slipping.

I am tempted to just go ahead and flush it. When I say flush, I mean the disconnect the tranny cooler and get the transmission to pump out the fluid method. No intention to use any special "flushing" machine with additives.

I figure that at the rate of D&F, it is going to take me many many quarts (cost a lot more not to mention effort) to fully dilute out the old dirty fluid in there and get the bright red Type 4 color.

So folks feel that flushing will shock the tranny because all the new fluid might start washing out and dissolving the gunk out. But in my case, I have already done 3 D&R, driven 1K, so maybe any and all varnish might have be washed out.

If you are letting the transmission pump out the old fluid at its own pace, I'd say go for it. The possibility of something getting damaged as a result is very minimal.

How much fresh Type IV have you run through it so far?

Since did the drain and fills first, you should have no problem with a flush. I would not think there would be a shock to the tranny.

I also like to do about 3 drain and fills when it is time (about every 18K miles in my book).
