The LS430 has 6 airbags while the S-Classs and A8 both have 8 (an additional two rear side airbags) and the upcoming 7 series will have up to 14. Do you think this makes the car not as safe and why do you think Lexus chose not to include more airbags?

My LS430 has eight airbags, or I'm counting them wrong. Two front, two side-seat, and front and rear side curtains on each side, for a total of eight. I believe the front and rear side curtain airbags are seperate, though they probably deploy at the same time.

They only count as one each therefore it only has six airbags. The S-Class, A8, and 7 series all have an additional 2 rear side airbags. The Q45 and some Hyundai models have six.

Dude, the LS430 is the safest vehicle that the IIHS has tested to date. As far as more airbags in the Benz and BMW models...those are stupid things, like airbags for your knees. And airbags in the front seats for the rear passengers. If the car is well designed, your knees should not contact the dash, therefore totally negating the purpose of the extra air bags. They're just extraneous selling points, really. As long as you have the standard dual bags up front, side-impact, side-curtain, and a well designed car, you should be fine. Lexus has massive reinforcement in their doors anyway, so that shouldn't be a concern...
