Default Repainting car - Help!!

Well business has been really good and since my company is running itself now me and my friend business partner finally have time to help work on eachothers cars. We just finished installed springs and a 20th kit on his new GTI and be began working on my system. I have decided to paint the rest of the car black. I went to three diffrent places and the cheapest quote I got was $1,700!! What I was thinking is I could pop off the chrome trim and take off the door panels and front and rear bumper. I was wondering how difficult that would be. I have a 12 hour day I could set to just taking the peices off. Is there a better way of going about this? Someone please help!!

To paraphrase:
1. Whats the cheapest and best way to finish of my car in black?

2. I'm droping my exhuast, which size inlet do I need?

Thanks!

That really isn't a bad price. You do want it to look good, right??? Actually, even spending that much I can't imagine the job would look that great.

Plus, black is a color that takes a lot of work. My buddy painted his project car black himself and spent around $5k on materials alone. After numerous coats and wet sanding, the finish is like a mirror. I'm not sure how picky you are, but I'd want it to look so nice that people would notice it. I'd be prepared to spend at least a few grand for a quality job.

Hey I agree with MadMax, that is actually a good price if you're painting the whole car. I just had my 94 LS repainted one solid color and the price was $1800 and I know the owner. It's a tedious job if it is done correctly, which includes removing all the mouldings, body panels, badges, door handles, bumpers, lights, etc.. Also the price for top quality paint is expensive, the paint for my car I believe was around $450 per quart. After numerous coats, wetsanding, and polishing (the job took just over a week) the car came out looking absolutely stunning.
Hope this helps

Default Also need a paint job

My 1994 is black already but the one guy who owned it first apparently buffed some scratches out too much on the hood or something because there are spots that are a lighter grey color. Since I want to keep it black will the job be cheaper? What can I expect?

If your car is already black, the job should be much cheaper because they don't have to paint door jams or under the trunk lid, etc...

For that they will most likely just paint the areas that need it and then buff the whole car to give it a nice shine. I have no idea what the cost would be though...
