18's on a LS?
 

Are 18" wheels too small for the LS? I'm trying to go for low and these are a incredible deal but will they be too small? They are 18" Wald D21's. I tried to find pics of LS's with 18's but some I can't tell what size the wheel is. I've got the Wald Kit already and the money for wheels... what would you guys do?

My LS400 has OEM LS430 18's

18's with a lot of lip can look small on bigger cars like the LS, not sure what the Wald's you're looking at look like

Since they have a modest lip I figure they won't look that small and with a low drop I hope it'll look good. If my car looks half as good with 18's as your does then :thumbup: :thumbup:

No, I've got full l-sportline setup - front, sides, rear (sans huge spoiler), exhaust & springs/shocks.

When I put the kit on, I had the car monotoned as well.

Dave your car looks awesome. Man I would love to find an Lsportline kit and exhaust like any other LS owner lol.

Well dave you've convinced me! The way I see it with 18's i'm even lower when I drop it, am I right people?? :D

Mine is on 18's. To me 19's are that just right size.

RA40 - I think 18's look good on your car, do you have a drop? What size are your tires?

Heres what i'm thinking, i'll get the rims cause:

A) In person they might look perfect
B) The price that they are if I don't like them and want to get bigger I can at least get my money back from them to upgrade to 19's

The wheels are 18x8 37 all around, which tires should I get? I'd like a fatter tire setup (for comfort) and to better fill the wheel well without looking TOO fat. Also, to get the wheel flush with the fender (I plan on shaving and pulling) what size spacers will I need?

Why bother going with 18x8's when in your sig you say you're poud to be VIP. The wheel fitments are weak and running spacers is just a band aid to help solve the problem, but its still not the right way to do it.

Personally, I'm looking into 19x9 +10 and 19x11 +24 with about 30mm of pull on the fenders required to make this fit. Please don't go conservative.

The suspension in mine is Bilstein (book replacement parts) and Eibach pro Kit, low snap ring setting in front and normal in the rear. After the 18's, total drop was 2.70" in front and 2.25" in rear. It is about 1 finger gap in front and 2 finger gap rear. The LSportline Bilsteins have an additional snap ring setting to drop the car about 3/8" more. Tires are BFG KDW-2 245/40, next time around, I'll go to a 255/40.

I forget what the off-set is for these LSportlines...I want to say 45. The 37 on your proposed Walds will have a nicer look in that respect. If you plan to pull the fender, I'd probably go with the eventual wheel/offset you want so you won't have to use spacers.

The line that is in my mind is , "do it right the first time". If it takes a bit more saving for the wheels, that's what I'd do. These LSportlines were a great deal so I jumped. These weren't the wheels I had planned on but they are close enough to what I wanted. Read that as I don't mind them and the Works would have been double+ what I paid.

I'm very poud to be vip... I don't want to spill the beans so all i'll say is this... if I got the 18's it'd be a temporary thing, the wheels I want to the specs are currently being looked for but nothing has turned up yet :cry: These wheel's would be a temp fix till I got the new ones.

The way I see it i'd rather drive 2 months on Wald 18's with a Wald kit then 2 months with a Wald kit and stock wheels. You know what i'm saying?

That being the case you'll probably want to run 15mm spacers in the front and 25mm spacers in the rear to get it flush with some roll but no pull on the fender. I assume you are going that far atleast anyways.

I say dont waste your money, just wait and get the wheels you really want. If you buy the 18s then that will take money away from your new wheels you want.
BTW the kit will make the wheels look small.

In the 10 year anniversary issue of VIP Car, it was interesting to see what was being applied to the cars in the day. 18's and body kits were the common just 5 years back. While we've seen what 19' and 20's will do, some of the 18's with kits do look nice. Obviously a more assertive kit will be complimented with larger wheels, a mild kit and 18's could be :thumbup: . YMMV of course. ;)
