Default Wheel swap 90-93LS

I want to upgrade the wheels on the 90LS from 15 to 16inch.
the 93/94 years have the 16 inch with 225/60/16.
however tire and rack recomends 225/55/16 for the 90LS model.
I would like to know if anyone has succesfully put the OEM size of 93onwards LS on a 90-92 LS without issues.
thanks.

Stock diameter on a LS400 w 15's is 25.5"
Have you purchased new rims? What is the your goal in term of improvements? Is this looks based , performance based or both?

My Dad has a 90 LS and I'm on his *** to abandon the 15"s mainly because I'm scared they will quit making decent performance tires in that size range!

Don't stray far from the stock diameter & you will be fine. I myself prefer a little more width in the equation.

There won't be any issues with putting '93-'94 LS400 wheels on your '90. You can go with the 225/60/16 tire as tire rack recommended without any noticeable issues.

Brian,
thanks for the quick reply.
Actually tirerack recommends 225/55/16, whereas I want to put the OEM tires from 93 which are 225/60/16. I realize that it would create speedo difference but going with /60 instead of /55 height as recommended is what I am concerned with....
thanks again.

The speedometer had to have been recalibrated in 1993. It will affect your speedometer and your odometer.

I ran 225/55/16 when I did the swap. I liked the lower sidewall for better turning. The 60 may give you a little more cush ride.

There are a host of 16" size tires you can chose from since the wheel well of a 400 is pretty roomy. Pay attention to the diameter provided above & you should have no problems.

My 94 LS runs a 18" SC430 rim w a 26.3" diameter tire that is .3" smaller diameter than stock.

A 245/50/16 Kumho Ecsta would give you a 25.7" diameter for example & little noticeable speedo impact.

Hello,

my dad is driving the 93-94 wheels with 225/55 R16 Conti V rated wintertires on his 92 LS. The 235/45 R17 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso Summertires are running smoother than the 16"!
