Question 90 Headlights..., I hope i'm not reposting but...

From what i've read, the cause of the bad light in the 90 - 92 LS is because of the lens.

My question is, is it possible to open the headlight (separate the lense) and (God forbid) polish or change the lens pattern to fix the problem?

Outside of my crazy idea, what other option ACTUALLY works?

I've seen a lot of stuff on here (I've been through about 300 threads about headlights on 3 different sites) and i havent seen anything that everyone agrees to work.

Any help for me? All i have thus far is silverstars but as i understand the problem, the lense will just screw them up too...

Anything useful that is actually conclusive?
I really hope this isnt considered a repost...

Rather than going through the trouble of messing with the lens, just switch the headlight assembly to '93-'94 headlights. You'll see an improvement in the H4 application over your existing 9004. It's a direct swap, but you'll need to get an H4 wiring harness (unless you want to splice the wires to fit the H4 plug, not recommended).

I converted lots of plugs to H4 from the 1960's through the 1980's (actually every U.S. spec car my wife and I owned for over 20 years) so I do not understand why it would be a big deal to do the same thing on an LS.

Did the lens beam pattern change much between the 90-92 and 93-94?

Converting to H4 plugs isn't a big deal, what I didn't recommend was to not change the wiring harness/plugs and just splice the existing 9004 plug to fit the H4 bulbs.

From my experience, the beam pattern from '93-'94 models are more evenly dispersed with a better spread pattern over the '90-'92 models. If you haven't noticed, there aren't too many (at least none that I know of) newer cars that use the 9004 application.

Bryan-
How do you go about incorporating the wiring of the H4 with the 9004?
Is there a tutorial on that?

There aren't any tutorials that I know of. I kind of cheated and had a local stereo shop hardwire an H4 HID kit into my existing 9004 harness.

And it's Bri....bah, forget it...it's hopeless.

An expensive 12 volt test light can be used to determine which wire is the "hot" for low beam, high beam, and which is the ground. H4 "pig tails" are available as collision repair items. You can use scotch lock connectors to connect the H4 pig tail wires to the 9004 wires near the plug. The last time I did this was 1986! so I am a little out of practice. At that time the H4 pig tails were only a couple of bucks each. I usually wrapped the connections with waterproof tape.

i cant see ***** with my headlights either (i have a 90) but if u would want to sacrafice the cool yellowness on the foglights, take out the fog lights break the yellow and the metal piece out for the foglights and turn on your foglights and you have much much better visibility/higher light output, sometimes people flash me high beams cuz my lights are brighter... just thought id let you know. if u dont want to loose the yellow fogs, just break out the stuff and buy yellow bulbs

I have done the yellow foglight thing and it does increase the light output.

Maybe upgrading to a real HID will be the best.

Default 98 LS 400 Fog Lights

I just purchased a California LS 400 1998 in mint condition with about 75,000 miles. The fog lights don't work. The bulbs and two fuses located in the inside panel are fine. I turn on the low beams and rotate the fog light switch but they don't work. Any ideas?

Do you have the headlights on when you turn the fog lights on? The fog lights work only when the headlights are on. They do not work when the headlights are off or when only the parking lights are on.

If that isn't it, check the fog light relay for continuity - the instructions are in volume 2 of the repair manual set.
