Correct. Canadian dealers sell a number of useful accessories that are not available in the U.S.

For example, I bought a set of mudflaps for my 2000 LS400 from the Lexus dealer in Victoria BC (Metro Toyota/Lexus). I bought the mudflaps for my first LS400 when I was in England on vacation in 1990 before Lexus started selling them in the U.S.

Canadian dealers have always sold block heaters for Lexus cars -- very handy if you live in colder areas of the U.S. and park your car outside. This thread makes me realize that I should have stopped by the Lexus dealer a few weeks ago when I was attending a family reunion in London, Ontario.

Until about 2006, the Lexus websites for Europe, the U.K. and lots of other areas showed a variety of roof rack options for the LS. They even offered trailer hitches and hitch mounted bike racks that included an extra set of tail/brake/turn lights. I've always thought it odd that so few accessories were offered by Lexus in the U.S. for the LS.

I was going to buy a rack, and I was seriously considering one of those magnetic ones for a set of skis.. What are you looking to transport?

There are tons of aftermarket roofracks for 90-94 cars and 01+ cars. There is NOTHING for the 95-99 car I can find.

If anyone knows where I can get a 95-99 one, it would save me. Thanks!

Called Canadian dealer and Seawell both said nothing.

Got a roof rack for the LS this winter, use it for the board, and probably pick up a bike attachment for the summer. It's functional for me.
No pics of the ski attachments yet, plus it dirty anyways, and yes I know my winter wheels look like crap...

resurrecting an old thread here - thanks to the poster above I was able to find a sportrack to fit my 94 - prior to searching and finding this post I was having trouble finding a rack to mount a bike on the roof. has anyone else done this on a LS400 with the sportrack? the mount inside of the top of the doors seems to be "hitting" the inside of the top of the door when you close the door, just a little. just looking for any type of feedback from anyone who has run this or something like it on our cars. thanks in advance.

So Thule has clamps that will fit on an older (pre 2001) ls? Do you have any parts #s? I found a 98 I want but there is no point if I can’t get our skis on topp

I had a Yakima setup on my '91 for most of the last 13 years. Took it off recently as I'm aiming to sell the car, and most people don't buy an LS for the racks. If you search my posts, I'm pretty sure I've put details in there over the years.

From a quick look through my notes:
All Yakima
SST towers, stretch kit, 48" bars
the stretch kit lets me get 36" spacing between the bars, useful for the windsurfers that used to be my main cargo up there, in addition to securely holding a rocket box.
Y26 clips <== this is the secret info I just noticed I had logged. Those clips are the customizing interface between the SST towers (old generation) and the car. Toyota / Lexus / Yakima will probably tell you nothing is compatible, but they work perfectly.
SKS locks - got a huge set of cores, used on all 4 towers, rocket box, bike mounts, etc.

All that was great on my '91. No idea how the '98 or other years may be different. The issue would be if the exact geometry of the door frame / door / roof is different. If it is different, you'd need a clip different than Y26, if they exist, and if you can find them.

And wow, I found I also scanned the SST towers info, with drawings of the components. Those may help explain what these customized "door clips" are. They're shown in fig 2 and fig 3. Labeled in fig 3, with a side view. In fig 2, the clip is the unlabeled generic-looking plate nearest the labeling for "curved washer." So the fig 2 shows a very simple straight plate, yet in reality it will have a very special customized shape to allow it to fit securely and without interference as shown in fig 3.

A quick google yielded the following site with a compatibility list for the SST towers and clips: https://yakimasupport.zendesk.com/hc...-Clip-Fit-List
The xlsx there confirms Y26 as being the spec for 90-94 LS400, but no other years listed.

EDIT - found this pic from before I took the racks off. The front bar has a wind deflector mounted, which does well to reduce drag and wind noise. The rectangular bars running fore-aft are part of the "stretch kit." Trying to get as much distance between the bars as possible, but limited by the door openings / roofline, the solution is that the system attached on each side at the two points with the locks shown. Then the bar / stretch kit cantilevers out the back where the rear towers and bar are held down by the stretch kit, but just sit on top of the roof there. Worked great.

As I mentioned in previous threads, the same Yakima clips that were specified for the 1985 Honda CRX Si that I used as my "ski car" also fit the 2000 LS400 I drove from 2003 to 2014. I don't know if the clips are "Y26" - they aren't marked. Here are photos showing the cross bars on the 2000 LS400 and the ski holder attachment. I'll eventually either throw them into the dumpster or donate them to Goodwill. They're free to a good home if someone wants to drive to Kansas to get them but I'm not going to go to the effort to box them up to ship.

We're retired from snow skiing. If I was going to carry skis today and couldn't carry them inside a vehicle, I'd buy a ski holder that fits a hitch mounted bike rack. The worst aspect of carrying skis on a roof rack is the wind roar but the drive to our favorite ski areas was over 700 miles.

Looking up in that spreasheet on the page cited above, it shows the 84-87 Honda Civic CRX as taking Y10 clips, front and rear (some cars use different types front vs. rear).

That the clips I used on my 85 Honda CRX worked on my 00 LS400 would indicate that this isn't an exact science. As I've suggested in previous threads, a person could go to a well equipped rack store and probably find a rack with clips that would fit an LS400 regardless of what vehicles the clips were originally designed to fit.

Question about the roof rack
Hey man,

The rack looks great, and I am trying to find one for myself. I noticed the link you posted went dead, and was wondering if you knew anything about what kinds of racks fit the roof of old ls400's?
