Default Poll Interference engine?

Seems to be alot of debate as to whether or not these cars have interference engines.

90-94 interference yes no most say no

95-97 interference yes no

98-preseent seems to be pretty sure yes due to VVTi.

WTi engines I have seen no debate. It is definitely an Interference engine.

The only debate or misunderstanding I see here are concerns over the 95-97 models.

My understanding has always been that whatever Lexus did to the 1UZFE engines to pump up the HP in the 95 ( 260Hp / 270 Tq ) & newer models changed them to interference engines.

I beleive this is due to the switch to a domed piston for those that need a technical explanation.

95+ are interference engines for the second time. Who said they werent?

The "interference" design actually increases the engine's efficiency, because the wider the valves open, the more "stuff" you can get in and out of the cylinders. But when the timing belt breaks on an interference engine, the pistons and valves can collide, and then it's "bye-bye valves."

Come on guys! You don't vote on what are facts. To find out which Lexus/Toyota engines are interference, ask a trusted Lexus repair shop owner or dealer service service manager or disassemble an engine yourself. Yes, I know exactly which engines are interference and which are not but I am not going to dignify this topic by supplying information for others to dispute. This isn't "brain surgery" guys.

I apologize for this "flame" but this repetitive topic gets really old.
