Default need some advice on a 1993 LS400

Alright, my dad's 1993 Lexus is having a problem accelerating. When you mash on the gas pedal, the car will stall and slow down immediately. You can't go over 2,000 rpm.

Now the dealership has had the car since monday, and they finally told us that the ECU is the problem. They want $1,800 to replace it. I found an ECU at a local (Houston, TX) import junkyard for $250 with a 30 day warranty.

I was curious to know if anyone had any experience with this type of problem. Does anyone know how to replace the ECU, or how I could get some literature on how to replace the ECU? Any help would be GREAT!

oh yeah, the dealership is the 2nd place I went to. The first opinion on the problem told me that it may be a bad ECU, so I wanted to take it to the dealership for a 2nd opinion. The dealership initially thought it was a bad throttle position sensor, but replacing that didn't help. Looks like it is the ECU.

The car:
1993 Lexus LS400 (purchased new fall 1992).
116,5xx miles

help

The ECU is located behind a panel below the glove box compartment and I believe you have to remove the glove box to get to some screws. Other than that it's not difficult.

How many problems have we seen that deal with acceleration in the 1990s-1994s? It seems that it has been occuring alot lately.

I found a place here in town that fixes ECUs for about $225 with a limited lifetime warranty.. There is also a junkyard that has one for $250 with a 30 day warranty. I'll update everyone how it goes.

oh yeah, anyone have any pics on how to remove the computer?
