Everyone talks about dropping the car, and yes it would look nicer if dropped, But I think most people ignore how bad the smaller disc brakes look when you go to a larger size (open spoke) wheel. That is the reason why I like the OEM stock 95-97 LS wheels, or the AMG monoblocks.
They cover up the discs no matter the diameter of the wheel.

I originally wanted a monobloc wheel...the only affordable one that I liked was the OZ Opera, but alas, it won't fit the LS. I know there are these type of wheels from Wald, iForged, and the like, but at $1000+ for one rim, I just can't see justifying it.

Hey ThaDRD, that's one smooth ride! Love the rims! Did you take those pics at the sears by Stephanie? Trying to figure out where you took them.

If you're interested, a bunch of us Lexuses (IS's and sometimes an ES) meet at Buffalo Wild Wings on Eastern and St. Rose Wed. nights at 7:30. We park in the back, the parking lot is perfect for our weekly meets. Hope you can come out!!

ThaDRD:

Your car is a real eye catcher. Nice job! Do you have air suspension? If not, how bad would it be to drop the car only 1" with Eibach springs regarding ride quality and matching them up to stock shocks? I'm only asking to understand. I understand that not everyone has decent roads where they live and some people want the most supple ride possible and so they don't alter the suspension.
3 of my cars have Bilstein shocks- 1 has sport (BMW) and the other 2 (Mercedes) have Heavy Duty and some passengers have complained about the harshness. They are very tough shocks and last a very long time. My daily driver (Legend) has stock suspension and I already have a set of brand new Eibach springs that I haven't installed on it. I was waiting to buy some adjustable Konis. I probably won't be doing this upgrade since the car has been in 2 accidents in the past month. That's why now I'm searching for an LS. I haven't bought my first Lexus yet, but when I do, I will see how I feel about the ride. My LS will be my daily driver and I could sure use a comfortabe smooth cruiser.

My suspension is stock...and did not have the air suspension option. That being said, it's smooth....this also has to do with the size of rims and profile of tire you select...the lower the profile the more you will feel every bump.

Default Dope!

Yo! Forget lowering it.

You'll spend more $ trying to get the ride quality back and you can't pull into any shopping mart without scraping...

So, you love the old car. Me too! I like the tricked out ones as well. But for my 92 its stock all the way.
I am just like you, modest money, but loves nice cars. And we picked a serious winner in the LS.

I need to tint my car also. It gets pretty hot in NC too. 90 - 100 between june and sept. But not year-round like the desert.

I remember seeing some guy's tag-line saying "forget the mods, maintain the car and the conditions it was made for."

Anyways I spent 4 hours scrubbing 13 year old Brake dust off of my Stock 92 rims yesterday. (yes I took the wheels off and scrubbed my back into infinity.) Needless to say I pissed of the wifey. oops.
And I wanted to wax it but thats just going to far after spending all morning on a car and not her. ha ha.

I love the look you are going for. I haven't really seen any rims that are priced in that range that look too good. Seems like the big boys have more money and more style. But I haven't been really looking.

So bless the car and the driver. Be safe and no scratches!!!
Love the black BTW, mine is all silver. (Love the old paint, it ripples differently than the new stuff)

I'll post a pic of my ride one day.
And everyone will say, "is that all?"

Yep that's it.

my 2 cents

Going with that wheel and tire size combo affoded me the luxury of NOT lowering the car or suffering any ride quality. Nothing against lowering at all, but it's an added cost and hassle (gotta be careful where you drive). I dig the LS's natural stance, the tire size looks right because it is almost the same tire diameter as stock.

As for clearing out all the lights and what not, I actually like the amber colored turn-signals.

Gotta have limo tint...quite frankly, it doen't help when it's 110+ degrees but it looks cool as hell. I like how it accents the chrome window trim. It's impossible to see at night though!

Bottom line is, I love this damn car! I'm just an average guy who makes an average amount of money...but the layman doesn't know that looking at some of our beautiful 1st gen LS's!
Well said Tha, I agree the car looks fine the way it is & it does not need to be lowered! Georgous looking car & love the new rims!

Default Hey guys

About the layman and our 1rst Gen LSs....

Does anyone else get treated like ka-ka when they are on the highway?
I'm thinking its because of the Oval + L emblem on the car...

I swear some people don't let you over or cut you off just because you got a Lexus.
I drive a lot better than when I was a teenager. But damn I got a kid in the car now!
The other day, I was in stand-still traffic on the Interstate. And some RV motorhome wouldn't let me over, I looked up and some redneck was flicking me the Bird!

Anyone else have this problem and is your ride tricked out or not? Maybe there's another issue....

I know that my car cost me about 6 gs, but brand new its like 40!
So maybe that's it. Those F@&%krs
And so many idiots think that I'm driving a MB 400 sel or 320 ... whatever.

Maybe I'll start a Poll!

Hey awesome ride man! I wouldn't lower the car either if I was you. It looks great AS-IS. Thanks for posting pictures, of your ride. I'll do the same next week when I get my rims in.
