Default New strut bars installed

What a night day difference!

For about the past month, the car has been creaking and clunking with regularity. Definitely not Lexus like. Took it to Luxury Motorworks and they did the install.

The front end is tight and not a hint of creaking or clunking has shown up. I thought originally it might have been the poly sway bar bushings but it obviously wasn't. The handling is nice since the play caused by the torn bushing is eliminated. They also dialed in the alignment I specified and the car feels good. (I want to try some variances with the camber but it handles so nicely now I don't want to lose it.)

to Luxury Motorworks and crew.

Thanks for the info, Its on my list of things to do.

I'm going to buy a bunch of parts like upper control arms, lower ball joint, strut bars, and springs, and do them at once.

I thought about doing that too and like you said...$$$$. The car feels very nice now. Not quite new but much closer. How many miles on yours?

I'll have to see how it drives over the next 100 miles. My suspicion is that due to my not replacing these bars sooner, I may have introduced more wear to the lower control arm bushings. The rear strut bars are clunking too but...<sigh> little at a time.

Thats why its taking me a while to complile the parts

Plus I just feel guilty spending it all at once, which would be the rational thing to do

Mine has about 101k.

He's not talking about the bar on top of the engine. He's talking about a suspension component (they share the same name). Looking at my car's history, I thought my struts were replaced, all to realize that it was the STRUT BARS. Glad those were replaced, now I have the following parts, either on order, or in my trunk:

L-sportline shocks/springs (no, i got them prior to the sale )
Two Lower ball joint
Two Outer tie rods
Two Stabilizer bars

forgot what else.. cant wait till after the install.

Default Help Identify "Stru Rods"

Ordered Suspension parts & originally had part #'s 48660-50010 & 48670-50010 which are the right & left hand "Bar Assy, Strut" .

These parts are the heaviest steel in a an LS400 Suspension and have no moving parts with the exception of the large nut on the threaded end. It is not a wear part so what is the point in replacing it?

The caster/strut bars have a pivot bushing. The rubber eventually begins to crack and becomes crushed. This is a service item that Todd TM Engineering and the Lexus service writers have relayed to me. Usual life is about 70-80K miles but varies with road conditions. Mine were obvious at 60K and some here have over 100K miles. YMMV of course.

Just looked for my invoice for the part #'s but cannot locate it. Ordered them from Sewell Lexus.

There is no rubber on the part I'm describing so we must be talking about different things.
I have no idea how to post the 90-94 LS400 Front Suspension diagram here but I can leave a link.

I'm talking about the part #10

Differnet strut bar configuration on your first gen. The 95+ have a large rubber type bushing which wears.

Default There is a bushing that is not pictured for the strut bar

I was getting a clunk noise whenever I went over a large bump, like a speed bump. On the threaded end of the strut bar, part 10, there is a large rubber bushing that fits over the theaded end of your strut bar. When the rubber wears out, you will know it by what I just described. It is a very easy replacement. I had about 150 K on my 1990 LS400 when I replaced the bushing on mine about 3 years ago.
