Just took the Lex into the Stealer!!
I just dropped my baby off at the stealer!!! I have a 91 LS400...took it in for the 90,000 mile tuneup and timing belt job. Quoted me $1100 on the timing belt and $570 on the service. WOW!!! $1600 My Gosh!!! I also need two new shocks on my hood...they want $265 for that...I told them I will try to get them aftermarket...Does anyone have a source for those?
Even tho it is expensive...I love the service tho. Valet...gave me a loaner Avalon...and free bottled water and muffins...

Thanks for that link! I will try that.
The dealer just called and said my car looks really good...no leaks...nothing...except one thing (of course) my lower ball joints have some "play"...they want $505 to fix it. Is this too expensive? Is it cheaper to take a Lexus to a Toyota dealer to have a repair like this done?

I would use an independent mechanical repair facility with mechanics that are ASE certified.
Ask around and you should be able to find a reliable/honest one.

Anyway, lower ball joint removal is a small step beyond removing the wheels - just three more nuts to remove and a loaner tool to press the studs out. Any want-a-be mechanic or shop can do that.

Thanks for that info about the lower ball joint. I called autozone and they want $38.99...the dealer wants $200 for the part and $205 for the install. That seems like a rip!
Oh...and Darden....I am a girl...Bro man!

You can get the hood shocks from http://www.l-tunedparts.com for like $47 a piece. They are a Toyota/Lexus dealer. $200 for just the shocks is a rip. Replacing them is literally a ten minute job.
I thought about the autozone cheap shock way, but I wasn't crazy about grinding out the ball joint. There's something to be said for having the original shocks and just puttin' 'em on.
