Default 95-2000 guys, I have a break pedal problem

All right, first off, I have about 1.5 inches of break travel before my brakes would even engage. This is pretty much Dead space. Now I don’t remember when I drove other LS's because I didn’t pay attention, but is this normal? In addition, my breaks are kind of mushy. (Except first thing in the morning, they are nice and sold). The fluid is fairly new, as well as the pads. I wish I had another LS I can drive to reference this too.

Every time someone drives my car, they suggest my car needs new breaks, because you have to push it far down to get the break lights/breaks to engage. I searched the forum, and but did not come up with anything.

So to recap, I have 2 issues:
1) dead space.
2) 2) mushy feel after 15mins of driving.

Thanks guys

My thoughts:
Master cylinder and/or brake booster.
Check to see that all flexible brake lines are not kinked or damaged.

Also, air could be in the system.

But the thing is, the break lights don’t even turn on until at least an inch of being pressed. That’s why I suspected it was some kind of pedal adjustment or something. Plus I don’t have any vibration problems at the pedal at all (knock on wood).

but you said the brakes are feeling kind of soft? have you just noticed this now or is it because someone told you that they felt like you need brakes after they drove your car? were rear pads replaced? are all the 4 rotors in good condition? are they thick enough or they have been cut so many times that there is not enough left of them. Check your rotors, make sure pads are not crap and I assume they are OEM and then bleed your brakes if everything else is fine. That, of course is after you check if there are leaks anywhere in the brake system. good luck.
