LS400 High Speed run Pic
 

Hey guys

Well some of my work friends screem Bull ***** to my 153 MPH Speed run story so I finally have some Back-Up. I was not going to try 150+mph again because of my last ticket. Actually getting to 150mph is easy, about 25 - 30 seconds of full throttle from 80mph The problem is slowing down. I DO NOT dare applying the brakes above 120mph, so you have to coast your speed down. That takes way too long in such a aerodynamic car. So I just kept it in the 130mph range for a while. This time I decided to take some time, Smell the Roses and even take a picture for you Non-Believers.

The second picture will show you how empty the road was. These pics were taken with my camera phone, so the quality is not the best.

The traffic was very light

Sweet. The LS is a great car for high speed driving. I have made it to 135 the other day. Nothing quite like driving at such speeds it is so much fun.:rockon:

That looks even better then the Autobahn.

Yeah its the Florida Turnpike. Some sections just crave for High Speed driving. This was just South of the Fort Drum service station heading toward Fort Peirce.

Horta, nice to see you still got plenty of juice on the big tank, and I totally understand what you mean about not braking at high speeds on a Lexus (much much safer to let go of the gas pedal). Quality of the pics seems pretty darn good for a camera phone :)

I've driven on the FL Turnpike before (from my past visits with my parents at their Orlando home), and if it weren't for the tolls throughout the highway, it would top out as one of the openest highways to drive on :D

why dont you push the brake above 120mph? Are you afraid something bad happens? The LS is pretty satble at braking from high speeds. Over here in Germany you have to do a lot of braking because of traffic. There is no Problem even by fully pushing the brake.

Maybe the US version has a softer suspension which makes it move more when braking from high speed.

No real reason why I am scared to push the brakes above 120mph. Its just a mental thing of either causeing rotor warp or just burning out the brakes early. Also I guess my fear is brake fade. I feel if I use the brakes to slow down say from 150 to 120, how much will I have left to slow dom from 80 to zero incase of an emergency? I'm sure nothing would happen, its just me being cautious.

I remember when I was young and had a totaly modified Honda CRX. Well we would run that car pretty hard and after some high speed runs and stops my brakes would be Literally Smoking Hot and they would NOT stop the car in anykind of safe distance.

I figure let drag slow me down then slowly apply the brakes to get me back down to safe levels.

Oh the camara phone is a Motorola/Nextel Prototype. It will go on sale next month nation wide at all Nextel stores. It take OK pics. Here is one I took Saturday at Ft Lauderdales Beach Place.

What size tire and speed rating are you running with Bridgestone Turanzas ER33?

They are Bridgestone Turanzas ER33 in the standard size, 225/60VR16. Speed rated to 150+ I think.

That's what I thought you said once before but according to Bridgestone's website they don't come in a size of 225/60/VR16....only a 215/60/VR16 which isn't recommended for an LS (too narrow) unless of course they screwed up on listing the sizes. They are recommended for the ES though. You might just want to recheck your tires but I guess if your happy with them that's all that matters.

Since i've been the other thread, I would suggest getting a ZR/WR rated tire to match the high speed capaiblity of the LS. Firestone makes a ZR rated tire called the Fuzion ZRi in that size. $98-100 last time I checked. They also made the Firehawk SZ50EP in that size, but it's discontinued.
