Default Steering noise on LS430

Have '01 LS430. I notice some cluncking noise in the steering column at each end of the steering wheel's free play when the car is standing or when I drive over road bumps.
Dealer replaced lower steering shaft u-joint but problem still exists. They will now replace the entire steering column. Last I heard that this is a common proble with '01-'03 LS430. Noise can be heard and if you put your hand on the top of the steering colun while moving the wheel, you will feel it as some sort of nocking as well. check your cars. I will post update after the shaft is replaced.
