Default extended waranty

You can haggle on the price of the extended waranty. The dealer im my area (Knoxville) wanted $2600 for the 100K extended waranty on my 2004 LS430 Ultra. I called numerous dealers throughtout the U.S. and found one in Iowa that sold me the same waranty for $900. Good luck!

Default extended waranty

Your local dealer may tell you you should buy the extended waranty only from him. But actually, the waranty is a LEXUS waranty and will be honored by any Lexus dealer and it dosen't matter where you buy it. I couldn't believe the variations in price. I bout my extended for right around $900 and did it over the phone with my Master Card. All I needed was my VIN.
Oh, my selling dealer said I could get the same coverage as the Lexus waranty from a third party company. They would sell me that waranty for $1600. I don't think so.

What does the extended warranty cover? Is it an extension of the bumper-to-bumper new car warranty, or is it restricted to just certain portions of the car?

For $900 it would seem worthwhile, but if its $2600, then you're betting that you'll need warranty replacement of $2600 worth of repairs on a rather reliable car, which seems like a bad bet.

I just called the Lexus dealer in Des Moines, IA per CaptBud330's suggestion. The guy over the phone will only quote me the retail price and won't negotiate at all. I know there is some room for discounts because my dealer offer me $300 off. I bought my 7/100 Platinum coverage with $25 deductable from Mercury Insurance a year ago for $1800. I will cancel and switch if I can find a good price on the Lexus warranty. Maybe we can all try to call a few Lexus dealers to get some quotes and post the results.

Default mistake

Guys, I'm terribly sorry I gave you some incorrect information. I got my extended Platinum Lexus Waranty from Lexus of the Quad Cities (563) 388-2898.
I called about two dozen dealers and this is the best I could find. Hope this helps.

Extended warranties are not cost effective and particularly not cost effective on Toyota/Lexus products which are statistically the most reliable vehicles available. We have never had a repair during the first 100,000 miles on a Toyota or Lexus vehicle that would have been covered by an extended warranty. Put the premium that you would pay for an extended warranty in an interest bearing investment or a conservative mutual fund and you will be far ahead.

I cannot disagree with your logic, but it's that little voice in my head that keeps me buying the bloody warranties.

Default true I agree

I bought teh Ultra and this thing has more bells and whistles then my Airbus A330. The last Lexus I had had few problems but if, just if, a problem occurs, it wouldn't take long at $72 hour to run up a big bill after the 3/36,000 mile waranty expired. That's why I bought the extended waranty.

CaptBud330,

I think your basic warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles and your drivetrain warranty is 6 years/70,000 miles. The extended warranty kicks in to pay for covered repairs only if there is no longer coverage under the basic or powertrain warranties.
