My brother always said I have dumb luck...

Well, the other day I decided on a used Lexus 400, and was looking at a 94 dark green that someone wanted to sell, went to test drive, liked it, but the seller told me by phone 1/2 hour later that he was raising the price to 9000 from the 8500 we talked earlier because he had another buyer at 9500...

Well, I remained undecided until that evening at 8:30 pm, I saw a listing on craigslist for a 1995 LS 400 where the owner wanted to have just the payments taken over, the listing was only 1 hour old, so I called and the owner's son said that his father was just laid off and he had to get the loan off his back and that the car was in cherry condition...I asked if I could see it and he said, well they had appointments up to 4pm the next day and then I could see it...I said, I'll give you my cell phone, call me at anytime you're free to show it...

the next day he called at 10:30am and said they would be there to 12:30...I shot over there and I couldn't believe it...this beauty was in much better shape than the 94, had about 30,000 less miles and fully loaded, traction control, premium wheels, great paint, it looks like a new car...the guy bought it about 15 months ago from as a certified used Lexus from the dealer and put only 8000 miles on it...new tires, new brakes, yes it is indeed cherry!

The son told me, that the first person who came up with the cash or financing approval from the bank the car was theirs, I said, I'll take it, and within 30 minutes I had the approval of their bank to carry the loan, and at 2.5 points less than their loan because my credit score was in the high 700s...the balance of their loan was about 13000, he had bought it from Lexus for about $21000, my payments with about 20% down to cover loan and tax will be about $230 a month which is about $400 less than the Toyota Sienna van I'm returning off lease, so I'm pretty happy about the whole deal...

I'm glad I acted fast, because we are signing everything over on Tuesday and I'm lucky this guy is a man of his word, because the next 2 days he had offers for $3500 over the deal he made with me...





...update on the first car...

the green Lexus 400 that the guy was trying to chisel another 500 from me, well he's now running the ad for 9200 firm, I guess the other people who wanted it so bad that they would give him 9500 backed out...

what really chaps me is that during the test drive he was telling me about his beach house in Santa Cruz, cabin in Oregon, his Los Altos Hills house that he recently found out was worth 10 million and the 5 acres in Los Altos with the 3 houses he met me at...

he said his wife was a CPA and that the taxes alone on the sale of the Los Altos hills house would be 5 million...

so if he was in for this 5 million winfall, why did he need to try and chisel me out of $500?

...I got the better deal anyway, the Lord works in mysterious ways
