smooche - Try Retros website for this info. This is where I learned how to take it out.

It would help if you posted what year your LS400 is since the center consoles differ. Assuming it is an early LS with the phone in the single console bin (not the newer ones with the phone in the top console tray), then there are two screws at the bottom of the console insert and two screws at the rear under the removable A/C vent cover which can be seen when the console lid is open. Once the screws are removed, carefully pry the console out with a well taped flat screwdrive or (my preference) a well taped rigid putty knife. Work your way around the perimeter of the insert.

smooche,

Have you removed the thin fuzzy carpet like covering on the on the inside bottom of the console and then removed the two screws under it? And have you removed the vent cover just aft of the console opening and removed the two screws there. This thin vent cover pops right off - I usually had to use a thin bladed screwdriver or a knive blade to pop it off. You have to look closely because it it hard to see that it is removable. I think I remember that only these four screws hold the insert in although some plastic tabs on the outside of the console insert do a lot to hold it in place when you snap it back in. It does take some force to pry the console insert out. Be sure to used a well taped screwdriver or my favorite is to use a well taped stiff putty knive which is wider and spreads the force you have to apply.

If this is a factory phone, it plugs in to a connector below the rear of the console.

What "lid" do you want to "take out"? To remove the center console insert on your 1994 LS400, remove the pad at the bottom of the console to expose the screws. Remove the screws. Remove screws, if any, under removable air vent register you see when the armrest is raised. Then pry out the console insert as I described above with an appropriate trim tool or a screwdriver or putty knife with its blade taped to prevent damage.

Sorry, the exact procedure is a little hazy in my mind since it has been about 10 years since I did it in a gen 1 LS400.
