Question 1992 LS400 TRAC light

Hey people... this is my first post on Club Lexus. I had no idea this place existed.

Just to start off.. I own two Lexus vehicles and I love them!

Anyways.. moving to my real point... In my 1992 Lexus LS400.. The TRAC light keeps coming on every few thousand kilometers.. I was wondering is there anyway I can reset it myself without going to the dealership? They charge me $50 everytime. Any help would be appriciated! Thanks!

this happens on my 92LS as well. does the traction off and check engine light come on at the same time or is it just the traction off light ?

Hey. My TRAC and Engine light comes on both at the same time. I press the little TRAC button and it doesn't do anything. Lexus says it has to be reset everytime it does that.. and I've had it reset so many times, I can't even count.

That diagnosis by that dealership should raise a red flag; that's one of the worst I've ever heard. Resetting the CEL and TRAC OFF lights won't in any way solve the real problem behind it all!

The proper way to do this is to have the dealership use an error code scanner to read the correct error emitted from the CEL and TRAC OFF lights. Every dealership should have such an error code scanner tool. The source of the error could be anything, but from my experience with the ES, I venture to guess it's a problem with the charcoal canister in the evaporative control system in your car.

In any case, you must go back to the dealership and get the error code read. Hope this helps

Guaranteed they'll charge me an arm and a leg for it and a first born child too! When the car was under warranty, they reset the light free of charge, now they're charging $50.

If I bring you back an error code, would you be able to tell what the error is?

lexusk8 is absolutely right--simply resetting the CEL or TRAC light does nothing to solve the problem. Unlike an oil change light that reminds you to change the oil and that you need to reset, the CEL and TRAC lights coming on are indications of some problem in the system.

Diagnostic at dealer should be no more than 1hr labor~$100 because all they have to do is plug into the ECU of the vehicle. If you have it diagnosed at the dealership, make sure to specifically ask to know the Error Code (eg. 5, 19, etc.) otherwise they'll just tell you the problem.
