Default cleaning MAF sensor

Hi,

Has anyone cleaned the MAF sensor on their LS400? Cleaning it is supposed to give 2 or 3 mpg back, as it's never cleaned by Lexus.

Cheers.

i wouldnt mess with it. That sensor is soo sensitive. Just think, if you jacked it up accidentlly, it costs 1000 from the dealer, or 300 from the junk yard

These days (9 years later) I've seen aftermarket MAF sensors for under $100--I wonder how good they are.

Anyone know how much an OEM MAF sensor goes for these days?

(98 LS400).

aftermarket is a bad plan for any fuel injection or ignition components, though if you can find OEM, have at it

in other words, take O2 sensors for example, these were made for Toyota by Nippon Denso, so if you can find the exact O2 sensor in the aftermarket made by Nippon Denso, (like I was able to find recently) then that would be great, otherwise, I would NOT recommend it!

your MAF was likely made by Nippon Denso, but some were made by Aisin, either of those brands aftermarket would be fine. Those two companies made most of the parts on your LS400

'95+ cars use an actual MAF ('95-97 and '98-00 is different though) whereas 1st gen cars (like the author of this post who has long since left CL) have AFMs, very different tech though they serve an analogous purpose.

you can get a used and perfect shape MAF for a '98-00 for cheap, the same sensor was used on many other lexus/toyota vehicles.
