Disable telescopic steering wheel tilt-away feature?

Lexus scan tool?
Is the Lexus scan tool used to reprogram/change these features a proprietary tool? That is, can any scan tool make these changes? I've been thinking about picking up an inexpensive OBD-II code reader just to have if I ever need it for my '99, but I'd be willing to spend a few more $$$ if I could change some of these features at will. Anyone had any experience with that?

anyone know how to disable this feature? My 97 is still having intermittent telescope and tilt problems despite having done the washer fix that aligns the cogs. thx.

I literally just disabled mine last night. Put key in dash. Get the wheel where you want it. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent static shocks to the sensitive electronic system. Next climb under the steering wheel and look above the brake pedal. There is a white box on my 95 that says tilt telescopic steering computer. I CAREFULLY unplugged both harnesses going up to the computer. Plug your neg battery terminal back in and your good to go. Just make sure you keep that battery unplugged if you're messing with electronics while the key is in the ignition.

Attached is an image containing P.N. of OEM (yellow) grease used in these mechanisms, as well as seat motors, window motor lift asembly and retractable antennae.
It is expensive...but works over wide temperature range and will not degrade plastic components (gears) as do other lubricants.
One should be enough for one car on
assemblies listed above.
Correct (yellow)Lexus OEM grease for steering tilt mechanism, retractable antennae, power window lift gears, power seat mechanisms

Disabling Telescoping steering wheel also disabled my mirrors

I followed the above suggestions, worked great but now I have no electric mirrors! Any Suggestions?
