Spinteews, didn't you get your Phillips HID's from autolamps-online? Thats where I am thinking about ordering mine. I have a question about how the ligts are hooked up to a power source. Does something plug into the factory wiring harness or does something have to be connected to the battery?
I'm not sure all the kits are the same, but I'm going with the Phillips kit and am want to know how you connect them b/f I order them.
I finally got my digital camera i ordered back from august... but its well worth it =)
alrite, theres gonna be 4 wires that connect to the battery... pretty simple. I thought it was gonna be hard in the beginning and gonna blow something up but its easy =)
each ballast has 2 wires that go on the - and + side of the battery, for the driver side its simple, but for the passengerside, you just gonna have to reach over and connect to the battery...
Well, crap, I didn't want to have anything connected to my battery - but I do want to get Phillips HID b/c they are the only ones I trust. I especially don't want those wires showing when I take the RX in for service. What's connected to your factory wiring harness where the Halogen bulb plugged in?
you can try... but i think its still gonna need power straight from the battery...
btw, the service people wont care... i talked to mine about exhaust and intake and he said don't worrie, if somethign happens jsut put the stock one back on =)
Here's the low down. Nick is the guy that runs Autolamps-Online. He's a cool guy and knows his stuff. The wire relay he includes with his kit is to be used for longevity of the ballast and of your alternator. The Philips ballasts have ignitors built into them, which draw between 25,000-50,000 volts initially when you first turn them on. Drawing this kind of power from an alternator puts trememndous strain on it. You'd much rather draw it from the battery, which acts like a giant capacitor. That is what the automotive relay is for. Just to clarify, the wire relay is strictly optional, but I highly recommend using it. Otherwise, you would just wire the ballasts directly inline with the regular halogen leads. Nick made it very easy to install this battery relay and there are ways of tucking it away and out of site. I have four wire relays going across my engine bay, but none of them are visible. They are taped up, wire loomed, and tucked under a crossbar or something. 100% weatherproofed too (which is important). Good luck!
