Is it safe to run HID's without wiring harness? *update** cuz my harness died
 

I think my wiring harness went bad on my HID's. they both just stopped working tonight. I put my old halogen bulbs back in and they work fine. The kit is a Philips Ultinon. They were working fine earlier this evening...then nothing. Fuses were all good. So I think the harness is messing up somewhere. But is it safe to plug the ballasts into my car without using the wiring harness to the battery? I had an old HID kit that worked that way...bulb to ballast, ballast to car..no harness

I'm sure you can get away with it, but it's not advisable. I'd go back to halogen in the meantime.

If you have a multimeter, check the + and - of the wiring harness to see if you get ~12v when the headlights are turned on. If you do get ~12v, there is a chance that your ballast isn't good. But if both of them went out, then it's very likely that it's the wiring harness. Sometimes it can be the fuse holder itself. The fuse may look fine, but the terminals inside the fuse holder is no good. That happened a few times on my friend's car.

you can.. its jsut not advised incase the HIDs burn up your stock harness... thats when you have to shovel out the $$..... jsut replace the wire harness... and you should be fine. wire harness shouldnt cost too much.. just get some cheap ones off ebay...they all work the same.. jsut that ebay has no warranty....

You will be fine. HID's draw LESS current, and less wattage and produce less heat than you halogens. The main reason for the bigger relay harness is to insure steady voltage input for the ballasts so they operate correctly.

From what I have learned and what my dad was telling me about wiring, you should be fine. There isn't much risk of burning up all of your wiring either. The wiring harness really just ensures a steady flow of current to the bulbs.

Well I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried to plug them directly into the OEM harness and I got nothing. I know the bulbs are good, there was no sign of pink or anything before. They just both went out while driving....The ballasts should be good too. But I'm not sure.....anyone ever had anything like this happen? I'm about to get an IS300, so I might just sell the kit...bulbs separately cuz I'm pretty sure they work...but yea anyone know what might work? Someone said connect the ballast directly to the battery. I have a feeling that might blow it up, so what should I do lol

Did you check the fuse for the fog lights?

yep. fuses are all good. my halogens work just fine, just the HIDs are dead it seems.

hmmm, may be a polarity thing, if you have a test light double check that, you may need to flip the input harness to the ballasts around.

Did you check to make sure you have voltage at the OE harness?

Hmnn so can I run this temporarily in my Non HID--> OEM HID conversion until I get a harness? which I'll order right away?
