I need Advice with HID's
 

I have a lexus Sc400 93. I just recieved a box of HID conversion from my Girlfriend. I was wondering if they were any good. they were called O-NEX Hid. Not sure if it's any good. And if i was going to keep it...should i get 6000k or 8000k. Please help.

I have 8000k on my Subie and I like the color that it is. Also you might want to ask this in the lighting dept. You might get better help there. Not saying your thread needs to be moved but just tring to help you get a faster answer.

what do you mean by box??? a ballast or a whole kit which would inclde wiring, ballast w/ignitors, etc. Because you are going to need more than just one ballast.

there are a lot of HID conversion kits out there, while it isnt oem, your girl probably didnt know any better (props for trying tho!), you never know quality.

Unless you can return, without her getting hurt, than I would try to go that route. Then get your money back and buy an OEM kit.

You could fire it up tho, although I doubt it will be more dependable than your oem units like Bosch, Hella, Koito, Denso, Valeo etc. Some people have those aftermarket kits, and have had pretty decent results with them going several years without a hitch. All depends on how good it is installed, and where it is placed, since they should be sheltered from the outdoor elements. You never know. I would probably keep it if my girl gave it to me, due to the fact that she would probably be "hurt" if I returned it.

anyway to answer your question 6000k would have more of a purple hue to the light and would technically put out a little more light than 8000k which should be more blue in color. I wouldnt go with anything above 6000k buts that is because my main concern is how much light I have on the road, I dont really care about color.

If you want best light output go with 5000k, even better 4100/4300K with is OEM (closest color to actual daylight so best output), but I dont think they are sold by a lot of aftermarket bulb makers, they mainly focus on 6000k and up.

It's a whole kit. with 2 boxes inside. My friend is gonan help me install it, due to the fact that i don't know jack. I guess i'll keep it since it's a xmas gift.

Get 6000k bulbs. The color is great pure white with a hint of blue on 6000k, and light output is decent compared with 4300k (4300k will give you a white light with no blue, but maximum light output). 8000k IMO is a nice blue color, but it hurts light output significantly. 6000k is a good mix between the two.

You could even get 5000K. It gives almost as much lumens as 4300K and has a very small hint of blue

yea, if McCulloch or MTEC ever made 5000K bulbs id jump on them.

as it is, Philips makes them, labeled as 85126+, which are basically regular OEM 85126 4300k bulbs but made to colorshift faster. they are made in case ONE bulb/side of your HID goes out then u replace it with the 85126+ so it matches the bulb already there.

if anyone knows a reliable source for the 85126+ Philips bulbs please PM me, im having a rough time finding them :sad:

You're looking for D2R bulbs? Because I think the original poster is looking for 9006 bulbs. I believe McCulloch makes 5000K 9006 bulbs. I've seen them on eBay.

yea, i need D2R (OEM HID in my car) and have some issues with some of the ebay sellers who claim to have them but not in the original boxes, out of stock, etc. thanks for the link tho, il hit him up. :)
