6000K vs 8000K for low beams

Hey all. Sorry to exhaust the topic, but does anyone have pics side by side of 6000K vs 8000K?

I've seen picks of OEM vs 6000K, but am deciding between 8000K and 6000K for lows.

Want to make a purchase with these bulbs I pick (as well as the other HID's kit 6000 that I have on hold for my fogs.

Thanks!

I don't know man. It kind of depends on the kit that you get and how they rated the bulbs.

From my experience, 8000K is just way too blue (had a friend who got 8000 and it looks really blue. Just way too much color). You're just asking to be pulled over with 8000K... but that really depends on the cops in your area. IMO 6000K is perfect. But hey, if you really want the color then get 8000K.

8000K probably won't be bright enough for your headlamps...6000K is already pushing it compared to the stock 4300K ones...I am happy with my 6000K's.

6000k is the max i would ever go as well.

in addition.. i dont think pictures would do you justice as the colors you see in camera pics and real life are completely different. See if any locals or friends that have 6k or 8k HIDs would mind showing them to you. you'll get a way better idea.

go for the 8000k, the blue is magnificent! :eek2:

6000k max. 8000k too blue.

I have 6000k in my fogs and 4300k stocker in the headlights. The 4300k gives off a brighter light against my garage door than the 6000k.

Go for a 6K...I wouldn't recommend 8k. Do it right at fist time.

I have 8000k on my car. Looks cool, but the lighting is not that bright. But still brighter than halogen. I would say that if I were to buy the lights the first time around, I would buy the 6000k--not too yellow, but not too much blue either.

personaly i have the 8000k and i like the they are bright but they arent as bright as the 6000k, it seems like the higher the number the less light glares on the road 12000k i would never get looks good in the head light purple but no glare.

PureDrifter 11-13-06 02:03 AM

actually its the opposite, the higher the kelvin the more the light scatters.

glare is more of a factor of the optics of the reflector/projector than the temperature of the bulb.

at 8000k your barely making twice the light output of a halogen and you WILL be putting more stress on your eyes (esp. on long drives). for these reasons i wouldnt go more than 6000k. 5000k is philips ever made the bulb but 6000k is fine for me :)

LexAnt 11-13-06 02:19 PM

philips does have a 5000k option, it's called colormatch. it's what i'm going to try after my 6000k doesn't hold me anymore.

Your best bet is to see the actual photos of what you like and buy the same brand. I *JUST* put in 4300k into my low beams and fogs and had 6000k before. It wasn't a super blue color but it was definitely blue like one of those cheap blue halogen bulbs that give off that faux hid look. That is actually why i chose not to keep them. You can already tell that the 6000k is blue... the 8000k is pretty much another equal step towards the blue. Thus- too blue for me.

Here are some comparison photos I just took last night. I swapped the plugs for my HID kits so the fogs go on when I flick the switch and now my fog light switch turns on my headlights.
