What can cause a bulb to explode?
 

I only ask because right after i installed my new foglight bulbs (bosch, from classicgarage.com) the one on the right went out. i tapped it and it came back on. then it went out again. i figured since i had just changed the bulbs it had to be electrical, and so i left it for a good month or so. well a couple of days ago, i got the itch to find out why its not working, i unplug the bulb and half of it stays in the housing...DOH :egads:

so could loss of connection and then regaining the connection cause the bulb to split in half?

they are Bosch H3C bulbs.

if this didnt cause it, what elese could have? i have proper voltage going to the wires through all RPM ranges, so unless i got struck by lightnening there was no power surge...help!

oh and i had latex gloves on when i installed them.

How did you pull it out? By the glass part of the bulb..... OR...... by the base of the bulb?

I usually wrap a towel or an old shirt around the glass part and pull on the base if possible.

Do you have pics of the split?

As for exploding....not sure....maybe if it was running too hot. I believe the rule of thumb was NOT more the 20 watts above stock bulb wattage.

the bulb was stock wattage. they werent those, i have yellow foglights, but its the lens inside the housing thats yellow. the bulbs were clear, and exact OEM replacements.

I pulled out of the 3 inch long or so bo by the base of the bulb. it came complete with plug on the end and all.

it speparated right where the black part meets the glass (the metal base that is used to hodl the bulb in the housing goes aroudn that blac part...ill see fi i can find a pic.

wow, umm..... maybe it's just the quality of the bulb?

i agree....probably a quality issue.

NOTE TO SELF.....STAY AWAY FROM BOSCH BULBS!!!! :D

Ok, good, i wanted to make sure there wasnt anything wrong with my car. thanks guys! :thumbup:

BTW, these bulbs are the exact same ones you get from the toyota dealer, the boxes are black and red, and in red letters, instead fo saying "bosch" they say "Toyota" when you get them from the dealer. same bulb.
