installing HID e39 projectors sc300
finally received my e39 projectors with hella ballasts and phillips bulbs and hope to complete this project next weekend assuming i get all my questions answered so any help you guys can give me would be great....i know there is a lot of other threads about e39 projectors but i cant find the info i need from them and i have also been talking to a lot of members on here about these questions, so hopefully i can get them all answered here and this will help out other members when they do a search
ok first off do i need to remove the plastic headlight housing to remove the stock projector or add the new projector? or will i be able to pull it out from the back of the light?
i am having some bracket made to fit around the e39 projector, i have read that this makes things a lot easier.....so do i just find a place to mount the bracket and and jb weld it into place and then jb weld the projector into the bracket?
next is mounting the ballasts....the hella ballasts dont have any places for screws to screw it onto someting.....could i jb weld the ballast into place as well?
and as for connecting the ballast wirng with the stock wiring....is it a direct connection? do i need to put electrical tape around them due to heat or anything like that?
the guy i bought everything from said he included the 9006 connectors and there are two wires coming out of the ballast that i am assuming connect up with the factory wiring? any more info you guys can give me about any tips or tricks or parts or materials i will need would be great....also if you have any pictures of anything you think would help out please post them.....again i have been researhing this for about the past 6 months and really been reasearching for about the past month trying to gett all this info together and cant find everything i need....so if you could please help me out with any of these questions it would be greatly appreciated..........i also have pictures of everything i received that i have some questions about ,but i dont know how to put pictures on here....so if you could help me out there as well.....you could give me your email address and i will get them to you with my questions.....mine is dmervar@insightbb.com

Wow. This topic's been done to death. The good news is that resources abound greatly my friend. 1. Look in my gallery 2. Do a search under my name and ES300 retrofit 3. Do a search for SC300 or SC400 retrofit or even E39 retrofit and read on my friend. Finally, go to www.hidplanet.com/forums and search there as well and between all of our posts, you'll find the guidence you need bro. Good luck
i know man..but i have done all of that....really all i need to know now is about the questions i have in those pictures that i posted in the gallery....the link is above..........and about the wiring....do i need a wire harness or not? i have pics that show two wires coming out of the ballast i need to know if those directly connect to the factory wiring.......also do i need to upgreade fuses or anything like that?
thank you
thank you
you're going to need to tap your power for your HIDs from the battery. With that power wire you tapped to the battery, have an inline fuse with i think a 25amp fuse...
That would attach to the power wire from the ballast. Then the other wire would be for the signal which you would tap into your headlight harness. Don't cut the old harness off but just buy some snap in clips that'll tap into your old wire, that way you can revert back to stock if you must.
The bracket is made by a member here by the name of Lex4Jess or something like that. He's all over the GS first gen forums, you can find him there easily along with his tutorials...
You need to remove the headlight completely, throw it in the oven or use a heatgun to separate the headlight.
When you pull the headlight apart, there will be 2 parts. One with the lens and the chrome housing. Then the 2nd piece is the back of the headlight which as the projector attached. You'll need to use a 8mm socket to remove the aiming rods from the back and I believe another 8mm or 10mm to remove the screw from the inside of the headlight..
That's pretty much it...i'm sure you can figure out the rest yourself when you have the bracket there in front of your face.
Hope that helped more than confused...
