Would these just plug into the existing sockets or is there some adaptor that's required? If these look just like the HIDs, then why wouldn't everyone with the non-HID setup go with this as opposed to do a costly HID conversion. I'm confused.

One of the biggest reasons is the difference in cost. HID look-a-like bulbs (i.e. MTEC, PIAA, Razo, Sylvania, etc.) are usually priced less than $100 per set, whereas HID conversion kits (i.e. Philips, Osram Sylvania) are in the range of $400 to $700. Also, the former is very easy to install, in that it just replaces the current bulb in your car, but the HID kit takes some effort and time to install with the extra materials.

Right. That's exactly my question. Why spend several hundred dollars on an HID conversion kit or on OEM housings, ballasts and bulbs, when you can get pretty much the same thing for about $40 just by upgrading the bulbs?

Because it's not even close to the same thing. Hyper-white/xenon halogen bulbs might come close to that of HIDs in color, but they are nowhere close to HIDs in terms of light output.

The package is very misleading... That does not make any sense... Producing 100 watts is irrelevant to the output since it is taking in only 55 watts. 100 watts does not mean brighter or anything. That is why many knockoff "HID style" bulbs refer to the kelvin ratings of 4100k as well as 6000k. Taking in 55 watts cannot give an output of 100 watts, but an input off 100 watts can give off 55 watts...

Do they appear brighter than your previous OEK stock halogens?

I will take before and after pics after I get mine installed on the wifes Maxima.

sorry

I guess I need pointers

I got another set now for my headlights
I now have two sets of MTEC lights - 9006
One that is 4300k and one that is 4700k

I did put the 4300k in and they gave me the look that I wanted - very white / hint (very very small) of blue. But I still can't figure out an easy way to get my wedge lights on the SC

Either I need to take out the airbox + battery or take out the bumper and the lights?

It's warm today and tomorrow so I might try this again.

Please give pointers on what you want to see for the shots and I'll try to do a better job!
