So, What about a kit such as the MTEC kit for the 2g GS?

Unfortunately mine is already in the mail, but I'm hoping that this kit is reputable.

I see what the link is explaining, describing the light output going slightly everywhere, but I imagine it's still a good kit? I've seen other pictures of the kid that look very promising.

No a retrofit makes a huge difference. I have a 6000k McCulloch HID kit in my car and the lights just shoots everywhere. You get more light with an aftermarket plug and play but not like a retrofit. I bought some projectors and the cutoff and light output is so much better and I haven't even installed them in the headlights yet.

 

Retrofit is the way to go. A HID kit WILL look brighter, but it is mostly an illusion. The hid kit throws down a tremendous amount of forground light resulting in a hotspot. It's kind of like overexposing a camera, in this case your eyes. You see the road 10-15ft in front of you nice, bright, and very clearly...problem is that the immediate foreground is so bright that you won't be able to see too much stuff further out than 15-20ft. Just as I said, like a camera being overexposed. Oh yeah, also since the halogen housing was not designed for HID output...there's going to be a tremendous amount of glare and unwanted light. There is NO WAY around this no matter how good of a HID kit you buy. The only way to get proper output is to have a correct reflector bowl HID setup or a projector HID setup.

A HID projector was designed from the ground up to output HID light. The light output will be very smooth(no serious hotspots), even, with a very wide beam and nice cutoff(you also get the nice blue/purple flicker). If you park a car with a HID kit in a halogen housing next to a car with a car with HID projectors, the one with the HID kit will LOOK much brighter. Even driving both cars around the one with the kit will look brighter. Now keeping what I said in mind, try to see which car you can see further in

I just finished a TL projector retrofit for my friend 2 weeks ago in his Scion TC. Initially he thought the light output was dim compared to the HID kit he had before, but after a while he started noticing he could see further

It was too bad that he totaled his car a week after the retrofit was finished!
