I just received 6000k HID kit from kwimports, and it's some ghetto-assed, fake, philips-wannabe HID kit that has no labeling such as "Philips" (duh), "made in XXX", etc.
I sent an e-mail to kwimports, but haven't gotten a single response.
I'm f'n pissed.

So I guess that's a no go for kwimports.com then? Where do they sell the genuine Phillips HID kits then

I e-mailed Ken and got the follwing reply. I installed it today and as far as I can tell, it looks very nice.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bulb itself will not have a Philips inscription. As Philips does not make 9006 bases, it is made aftermarket. The ballasts are genuine Philips if you wish to remove the protective plastic casing.

They WILL NOT melt...guaranteed. We use to carry Korean made kits and made tons of money, however, the failure rate was 20%, and not worth it. We pay substantially more for Philips components.

Many users on ClubLexus have purchased from us and are very happy. Once they are installed, you will love them. Remember, they are guaranteed to be free of manufacturer defects and failure for 1 year.

Let us know if you have any other questions/concerns.

Thanks,

Ken

This is the kit you received, correct? As Ken said, the ballasts are Philips..which is why it's called a Philips kit. I don't see why you're angry because the box doesn't say "Philips" on it...all that matters is that you're satisfied with the product right?

Those ARE Philips ballasts AND bulbs. The bulb are rebased by another company (probrably in Taiwan) but it's who makes the burner that is important. That kit is sold by a few other companies and is a good quality kit. You'll be happy.

I got my kit from KMimports just before Xmas, installed it extremely careful. I'm not sure why but from time to time, my left light will not light up and when that happens, my right one is just yellow-whitish..I turn it off and on until both of them come on as a nice blue together..
I was extremely cautious when i installed them not to power anything up and didn't toucht he bulbs, but i'm not sure what the problem is...i checked and changed all grounds and I'm still having the problems? Has anyone else had this problem? I thought about swapping bulbs(left/right) to see if it's the bulbs, but i wanted to ask before doing unnecessary work..
KMimports were very speedy, i just hope my problem is a common one and not something bad from KMimports. Hopefully whatever is it..will be a easy fix.
Advice would be nice,
BIGd

I have the same problem as well. The last post in this thread might solve that problem:

I haven't tried it out yet, but it's definitely worth a try.

This can also happen if you don't have a relay harness that connects to the battery to power the HID ballasts. Do your kits have a relay harness installed?

Hmm, I was thinking it could've been the relay harness, because mine were installed without using the relay harness and most of the wiring that came with the kit. I think I'll try installing the relay and see if it fixes the problem...thanks for the info.

You definitely need a relay harness installed. There are two important things the relay harness does for your HID installation.

1) Uses direct battery power to run the ballasts. HID ballasts require more power at initial startup than your stock headlight wiring are designed for. This is why you are having problems with your lights (most likely)
2) It also protects the electrical system in your car. Eventually over time you would most likely see problems like your headlights not turning on or one might turn on and the not the other, etc. Then....total failure.

I would also highly recommend wiring a diode across the coil of the relay to protect your headlight switch. When power is applied to the relay by turning the headlight switch on it energizes the coil in the relay and closes the relay to run power from the battery to the ballasts. When you turn the headlight switch off, the coil is still energized and needs to go somewhere. If you have a diode wired across the coil of the relay then the power will bleed off to ground. If there is no diode then the power is going to go backwards and arc across the headlight switch. This will eventually cause failure of the switch.

Yeah, i have a relay harass and the power is hooked up directly to the relay harness. My last hope is the wrap insulation..

check your grounds too. Make sure they are making good contact. Use dielectric grease for all electrical connections as well.

Cool

I got my 6K kit from ken, and sent several friends to him also. Ballasts & bulbs were Phillips. The outside of my box had Phillips on it also...

So it looks like he's using a new box. What differance dose it make so long as the ballast is from Phillips!
