Default HID Ban, I'm confused...

Hey guys,

What's the deal with the HID ban. I live in So Cal and in the asian auto magazines, I see HID ads all the time. If they are banned, why are these people selling the kits? Thanks

The HID ban is for the US so any company outside the US can still sell them. The only way to get a HID retro kit is to buy from outside the country, either online or over the phone.

They are not supposed to sell into the US either. The larger HID companies are taking the safe route of not selling into the US at all (at least this was happening at and near the time of the ban). The kit has always been illegal for consumers (like all our other mods that are for "off-road" only). DOT is just cracking down on sellers now with pretty sizeable fines.

I am sure you can still find kits if you look but these companies are either unaware or taking a chance on not being fined.

That may have been true at that time, but as of right now there are many companies that do NOT have a US presence selling HID retrofit kits for halogen headlight assemblies. A lot of them are the larger companies. Autolamps(HID-online.com), Catz (visualdynamics.ca), XenonDepot, etc. Do a search, you'll find plenty who still sell to this country.
