When you turn HIDs on, you'll notice the lighting sort of instantly "flicks" ON like a household on/off switch. For the halogens, the lighting will "fade" on for less than a second...

turn on your light facing a wall. if the headlights goes up and down a little bit before they settle, then it's hid. otherwise it's halogen

btw, back in 98, i thought hid was only option for gs400?

They were only an option for the GS400 in 98.

The easy ways to tell however are:
1. They will level when you turn them on (Adjust up and down)
2. They will apear to have a slight blue tint when on
3. They are 4 times brighter than hal.
4. They will say XENON somewhere near the headlight under the hood
5. They will instantly turn on and not fade on
6. They will instantly turn off and not fade off

How about you keep your rude and unnecessary comments about other members to yourself.

Do not slander other people simply because you don't like their question. Doing so will only keep member from posting question because of a possible rude reaction from members like you.

He bought the car used and someone might have put cheap blue bulbs in it and he did not know if they were real HID's? You never know.

It would be best of you not to reply if you do not feel a question deserves a qualified and professional response.

Not cool

Themasta, if you have to come out of retirement just to call someone a rude name, please stay in the retirement home. Not cool AND not allowed on CL, please do not repeat this behavior.

Im not trying to add on and I know the original question has been entertained but I wanted to add that the rude comment was so uncool... Not everybody knows everything dude.. This is coming from a newer member who asks questions to learn...an I sometimes feel that I may ask dumb questions to members at times but there are others that have more experience and know more thats why Im here to learn and share with others as I progress..... . Truly there is no such thing as a dumb question that was something always quoted by a teacher in school

Wow, that was a really uncalled for dude, im not taking it personally, but my family or I have never owned a car with HID's. Compared to my Dads Jaguar XJR and my moms suburban, the lexus bulbs are a lot whiter, so i didnt know if i had them or not.....
