Default McGrath is Selling his LFA

I hadn't hit Autotrader in a bit and today 17 LFAs are on the block.

To my surprise, Mr. McGrath is selling his LFA.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...wvideotab=true

It has just under 1100 miles on it.

When I spoke with him in 2010 he was fired up about getting one. I wonder why he is letting go of his now?

I can't believe there are so many LFA's for sale. I would love to know why these guys are selling.

Well, it is simple. He is a dealership owner who drove the car merely for some joy riding for 1100 miles.

Now he is trying to sell a "used" LFA with 1100 miles for more than what normally brand new LFAs sell for at $385,000.

Plus I know inspite of LFA being 80 - 90 in the US now and 17 of them are for sale, it is very normal for exotics to be sold shortly after they are bought.

Here, look at US market and there are 50 mildly used Ferrari 458 Italia for sale at DuPont alone without looking at Auto Trader or somewhere else

There will be more 458 on sale, and that's a given. Ferrari is producing way more of them than Toyota is producing the LFA. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the ones on sale are coupes. I see the 458 Spyder stealing some of its sunshine.

I think there is a big difference. Ferrari makes 3000 Italia's a year, and about a third of those are sold in the USA.

I think Lexus did not do a good job of screening initial customers.

I do agree regarding screening initial customers.

Yes, I mentioned that in my post. However, proportionately if you calculate percentage wise, there are several web pages where they have tons of 458 Italia for sale and I would not be surprised if there are over a 100 used one's for sale in the US alone.

There are approximately 100 LFAs in the US currently and 17 are being sold with most of them brand new, which is about 17% of the total LFAs in the US.

Another example is Aventador, which first landed in the US about just 5 months ago and 22 used Aventadors are already up in the market for sale

http://www.jameslist.com/cars/lambor...ntador-lp700-4

What is interesting is seeing the price of these 458 Italia (which is close to brand new LFAs) and used Aventadors selling for close to $150,000 more than that of the LFA.

errr, i believe big portion of these lfa for sale are actually brand new cars (not driven so to speak), so it has little to do with screening

and if lexus actually tighten up the screening in anyway, i can only imagine how many more for sale.

face it, those who can afford cars like these, it's not surprising they like to trade cars. not to mention people (collectors) want to be tied down with a car for a fixed period of time. it's their money

Caring about it is too strong a word. I don't really care but I am curious.
My curiosity stems from my own personal feelings about the LFA.
My thoughts are:
-This is the first and maybe only Lexus supercar. That makes it uber exclusive.
-The LFA is probably the most user friendly exotic there is. Comfy interior and Lexus-like reliability for years to come.
-The LFA"s sound is as distinquishable as any other exotic, sounding like no other.
-The engine should be able to be tuned to produce insane amounts of power.
-Being a Lexus gives access it to a huge dealer support network.

The initial reviews were mixed. Now they are all positive. Many are claiming it to be one of the best there is. If you're a Lexus enthusiast, you've been waiting forever for Lexus to give us somthing like this. I couldn't see myself parting with it. Ever!

Default Nothing unusual here

Just another lightly used exotic for sales, unlike those "brand new", untitled dealer allocations.
Perhaps he realized that color is too common for LFAs.

You are absolutely right about everything. If I could afford the LFA Nurburgring edition, I would keep it forever and give it a nice bubble bath every week whether it needs it or not.

I know them personally and its just another car to him. He has plenty of "other" toys to drive and appreciate. Money talks...when in the car business you learn not to get attached to cars.

Knowing the family this doesn't surprise me and its not that they don't like the car its just a luxury they can afford to have.
